Default My Classic Gunbelt And Holster Restoration Is Done!

Here again is the beat up Arvo Ojala Hollywood fast draw holster (circa 1960) that I found on G.B. for $16. I cleaned it up and made a gunbelt for it based on my old black Ojala rig. I freaked out when I cut the leather because it was an uneven hide which was thicker than a regular belt on the left but half that thickness on the right end. So I spliced a piece a leather on the right and fixed the wiring on this old sander and with a caliper at hand sanded the back down to a proper thickness. Then stitched a lining and loops and beat it up to match the forty year old holster as best I could. Now I have a rig just like all those guys in the 50's and 60's TV shows only it didn't cost $455 that they go for now. It fits great and my 1983 Colt .44 Special has a new home.

Beautiful job. What brand of leather restorer did you use on the holster?

Dish soap and luke warm water. Actually I replaced the dried out strap, leg tie down and hammer thong. The holster itself wasn't too dried out,but I'm going to look into something called "Pickard's" antique leather stuff and apply it.

It looks pretty nice, except it backwards. What'd you do, make a mirror image of one and accidently reverse it?

I'm backwards. I live in an alternet universe like that indian in Little Big Man who was a "Contrar" and did everything in reverse. It was such a lucky break finding that lefty Ojala holster, even though my wife can't see what the big fuss is about. But she was just on the internet looking for these special "hangers". Hangers!! Geez!
