Default How to stretch leather question.

Oddly enough, after reading and posting to the thread about finding stuff you forgot you had, I found something I didn't know I had and have no idea how I got it.
A Biancvhi #111 "Cyclone" holster for a Walther 380 Auto.

I don't have any Walther pistols, but I've got a CZ VZOR 70, which has a very similar profile and fits in the holster like it was made for it except for the retention strap being slightly short. With the holster off my belt and using both hands, I can snap it, but I cannot snap it with one hand with either strong side carry or cross-draw.

What's the best way to stretch the strap a scosh without ruining its "Been there - Done that" appearance? (It appears to have been carried a lot and cared for little)

My plan is to open carry the CZ cross-draw while at my favorite range so I won't be effectively unarmed at times while practicing with my concealed carry Tomcat and/or 637. There's never been a problem that I know of, but it is an open to the public outdoor range in the middle of nowhere and I'm not as young as I used to be, so a well worn, evil looking black pistol that few people recognize in a well worn, high quality leather holster might be a good insurance policy.

Wet the strap with water, and it'll stretch. When it dries, you may want to apply a bit of Neatsfoot oil to the smooth side of the leather to replace natural oils the water removed. I hope this helps, Greg

SOAK the upper portion of the holster not just the retaining strap. Oil your pistol heavily and then wrap it in plastic wrap from the kitchen. Place the wrapped pistol in the holster and carefully work/stretch it till it snaps shut. Leave it alone for a day.The leather will dry and form fit to the area on the backstrap where it holds said pistol. Problem solved!

Default Stretch holsters

If it does not need much, I put the gun in an old sock and put it in the holster for a few days. Normally works fine, I told a guy to lightly
wet his holster and let air dry, came back and it was breaking apart.
He would not admit it, but I think he put it in a microwave?

Played around with it some more and I found out I can push the strap up on the beavertail (or whatever it is called on a CZ) and put tension on it when snapped.
Think I'll let it sit that way for a couple days and see what happens.

You can use 90% + rubbing alcohol to hasten the dry time. Wrap something around the gun to slightly increase it's size, then the plastic, and insert it into the holster until dry. One of my holster makers provided a thick strip of leather to insert first if the holster was too tight, just another way to stretch it.

A shoe repair shop can sell you a product called Shoe Stretch in a little red plastic bottle; costs a couple of bucks. About a buck will buy you an 8 oz. bottle of rubbing alcohol, same stuff. It works on shoes and boots, but I have yet to try it on a holster.
