Default Holster Question

I picked up this nice glove leather lined S&W holster at the gun show for 15 bucks to carry me over until I can save up for a good custom rig. My stupid question of the day is what is the second snap on the strap for?? The snap on the end of the strap snaps right in and secures the gun properly. The only way to snap the one in the middle is with the revolver removed from the holster. I'm going to have to cover the inside with some suede leather so the snap does not scratch the gun.

Never figured that out either. Maybe you need to put the other snap half on the side plate as a double safety. Are drill the the braded side of the snap and remove it. ??????

IF you run the safety strap around the front of the holster rather than over the gun will it snap in place properly?

If so, that was so you could unsnap the strap and not have it dangling down where it didn't belong.

What about between the hammer spur and the rear sight?

If that don't work, it's one of those damifiknow thingy's

I just ran the strap around the front, and the middle snap does not lay against the gun with it that way. The retention is tight enough that I could carry it like that but gluing some leather over the metal is a quick and easy fix.

If you were goin' into a questionable situation, it was common to unsnap your gun, but you din't want the strap floppin' around. You could snap it around the front of the holster and it would stay out of your way and you could draw the gun unimpeded by the strap if you needed to.

Can you run the strap behind and over the trigger guard? I'm wondering if this was so you could secure the piece if you had bobbed the hammer spur.

Dave
