Default Leather holster...anyone have a clue ?

Fits perfect in the backpocket of a pair of wranglers..
Lawrence 1911 rig with 1933 Colt Government.
Rig could be worn on a belt.

Not sure, but I knew a guy carried two holsters like that with two 1911s in the pockets of the old-time beat cop overcoat.

I think it is called a "side holster". See: Museum Quality Gun Leather- vintagegunleather.com - California

Not sure about the holster, but that is a sweet looking 1911.

I think it is a copy of an old S.D. Myres design. Gen. Patton used a very similar rig for his Colt Detective Special, crafted by Myres. I also believe yours is not for a 1911, although it seems to work allright. I'm guessing a Browning from the marking on the bottom right. I don't think it refers to the finish color.

Cheers;
Lefty

Default Leather holster...anyone have a clue ?

The Lawrence number 18 pocket holster was in their line for many years. The earliest Lawrence catalog I own is dated 1938:
"No. 18 Pocket Holster. For revolvers & automatics.Seams lockstitched.Loop for belt.Tan leather,unless otherwise ordered......$2.35".
Latest catalog I have with this holster listed is # 110,dated 1969.It doesn't appear in catalog # 114,dated 1972.
It was designed to be worn in the hip or front pocket & could be anchored by running your belt through the loop.Usually supplied in unoiled finish.
I would imagine yours was made for a Browning .9 m/m High Power as I don't know of a "BRN .8 m/m" handgun.
Regards,
turnerriver
