Default GEORGE LAWRENCE HOLSTER!

My grandpa has a .44 magnum George Lawrence model 79D 601 holster. I have been trying to find what the hosters worht might be for him. Unfortunalt I haven't had a whole lot of luck finding a price, but came upon a simliar post from this forum. I am hopeing that someone here might have some insight into what the worth of this holster may be!

Thank you in advance!

Welcome to the forum.
Pictures would really help. At least give a really good description of the holster.
Also might try ebay for similar ones for sale.

A Lawrence 79D 601 would be their "Gunslinger II" model. The holster was popular during the fast draw craze and is leather lined & reinforced in such a way as to allow cylinder rotation when cocking while still in the holster ( ! )
Available in black or oil finish. It should have a rawhide tie down thong and hammer thong and is designed to be worn low, on a buscadero style cartridge belt. The size 601 will fit a Ruger 7 1/2" .44 Magnum Super Blackhawk.
That style is not too popular these days but Lawrence is a premium name and they are long out of business.

I don't want to post a link to any open auctions but if you check Gunbroker listings by seller lunker1999 you will find a similar model but made for a Ruger Single Six listed at $50.00

Default Another holster

Found this at Goodwill for 29 cents. Its a George Lawrence holster. My guess is its for a Browning Challenger type pistol. Would it fit a SAA Cimmeron .22LR 6" barrel?

Found the holster:

1954 catalog. Lower left hand corner - plain model. It says, "For automatics only with clip pocket sewed in. An unusually handy combination you will appreciate."

I have no use for it. Auction if off here? Would there be enough interest? Proceeds will go to S&W forums.

Don't know about your holster but Elmer Keith thought a lot of Geo. Lawrence's holsters. I have a 1957 vintage Lawrence #120 for my prewar Colt SA. That's been thru a lot & still in fine shape.Elmer recommended it & he was right.

If elmer recommended it, you can't go wrong. I really like the 120 lawrence holster myself. The only maker that seems to be making a copy of this holster is el paso saddlery and they have a long wait and unlike the lawrence their safety straps are not long enough.

Good idea. Recco you ask The Griller first, of course.

Hmm. Probably would help generate interest if we could ID what model(s) it fits.

I believe its fits pistols such as Browning Challenger and Colt Woodsman. The ad says, "automatics.." and shows a picture of the type.

Default Another Lawrence Holster question

Ok...I recently found a box with several Lawrence holsters in it while cleaning a warehouse. I have not been able to find a size chart for them, and I am hoping some of you can help.

All of them are stamped on the back "The George Lawrence Co., Portland, Oregon".

Most of them are stamped above the maker's stamp "120C", with the number "521" stamped below the maker's mark.

The rest are very similar, but say "120Z" and model 521.

I have attached two pictures. They are in great shape, and I would love to know what will fit these holsters!

Thanks for your help!

The Lawrence 120 is their basic "Tom Threepersons" model. He was a famous Texas lawman and is generally accredited with developing that particular design, one which has been copied by many, many holster makers since the 1950's.The one pictured should fit a 6" K or N-frame revolver. Here are several more by other makers with optional lining and hand carving.

p.s. Welcome to the forum! If you would be interested in selling them, drop me a PM.

I am no expert but I have a 1964 Shooters Bible with a Lawrence Holster chart in it.
It says the 521 was made to fit a 38 Police Positive Special 5". I can't find anything about the X stamping.

Default GEORGE LAWRENCE HOLSTER

Z indicates smooth kip leather lining. C indicates chamois leather lining. The 120 model holster was designed
by Elmer Keith; he refers to it in "Sixguns" & he was
featured prominently in Lawrence advertising in their catalogs
& magazine ads in the 1940's & '50's. See the expert commentary
on Lawrence if you're interested.

Thanks for all of the great information! I will definitely read the commentary and learn more. I had no idea finding a box of old holsters would lead to a new hobby?

You'd better be careful with those holsters- there is no end to it.

Default Lawrence 1C 589 Holster

Here is my Lawrence 1C 589 Holster. It was designed for early Colt and Beretta small (22, 32) automatics. It works real well with my Beretta 21A, 22 Cal LR Auto.
