Default Holster help for 1911, please

I have a Colt Gold Cup that I have an El Paso Saddlery (EPS) Tanker holster for, and it's very nice If I want to carry it for any distance securely.

But what I would like is a holster that is very "slick" to draw from, that I could use just at my friend's informal pasture range.

I have an EPS "Hellfire" for my Colt SAA that is perfect for that use; very slightly flared at the mouth, and has a steel shank - think fastdraw type.

I want the same thing for the Gold Cup, and was wondering if one of the SASS Wild Bunch holsters would give me what I'm looking for - basically a holster that fits, but does not retain the handgun very tightly, and has no retention strap to get in the way.

Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.

I have one of El Paso's 1930 Austin holsters for my 1911. It's a very similar, if not the, pattern for most of the "Wild Bunch" holsters being manufactured. Mine has suede lining which protects the finish, but some what slows the draw. Since I'm not too concerned about fast draw, it's the perfect holster for me. There is a block behind the trigger guard that holds the gun butt away from the body, making it very easy to get a good hold on the grip when drawing the pistol. Mine has the strap, however, I have never had it get in the way of making a smooth draw. I also have an EPS Patton holster for my SAA; they also make it for the 1911, which would be an authentic early 1900's pattern holster to carry a 1911.

Added a picture; you can see most of the holster.

This one is made by alphonso. I must have owned it for close to 40 years.

I've been trying to find one like this I have for a Hi-Power. It's made by Galco, they used to call it their "Gunsite" model, and then changed it the "Trainer" model, and then quit making it (how rude, eh?).

1911 = Askins, right?

I want something that holds the gun lower, and more away from the body than an Askins style.

That is one Old School rig. Back in the day it was one of the best a fella could get.
What type of sights are on that 1911? They kinda look like they came off a S&W Mod 52?

To the OP. Galco still makes some good holsters, but take a look at Milt Sparks. There will be a wait no doubt, but their stuff is top notch.

I have Yaqui Slide holsters for my 45 and a Glock 36. Both El Paso Saddlery and Galco make them. Real minimalist holsters.

NE450N02; I belive that sight is a older Bo-mar. There is no manufactor name stamped on it. The gun is a highly customised Remington-rand. I bought that gun from a old friend now deceased back in the late 1960s. He told me he had Gus Pachmeyr do the work. The front and backstrap are finely checkered. Pachmeyr was the about the first old guru that specialised in doing .45 auto work many years ago.

Here is a picture of that gun. It is far more accurate than me. Also I never had a malfunction, not that I have shot it a lot though.

Erik at Sideguard Holsters could probably help you out.
Or one of the other holster makers who are members here.
