Default What to do with Marlboro Man's holster?

LGS gave me a nice looking S&W 21 24 holster that arrived with a dick special trade-in.

Looks nice, but this thing musta been owned by the Marlboro Man. Stinks to high heaven of cigarette residue.

After the baggie trick, its a perfect fit for my 696, so I'd like to de-stink the thing, if possible.

So far, I've:

*Scrubbed with saddle soap.
*Sprayed it with Febreeze.
*Soaked in lukewarm water and dried slowly.

Anyone know of any other tricks to de-stink this thing?

Some guy posted here about putting apples in a car that had been stunk up by a dead body. Said it fixed the problem.

Maybe you could put the holster in a shoe box with a cut up apple and see what happens... But the holster might wind up smelling like apples for a while, like me the time I borrowed my teen daughter's shampoo when I was out. My hair smelled like strawberries or something for a day or so.

She thought it was funny.

Seriously, try leaving the holster out in the sun, if you have a secure area to do that, like on a patio. I've tried that with used books that smelled of tobacco smoke, and it seemed to help.

Living in Oregon, in the winter, that's out. Ah, for the Arizona sun!

Thanks, everyone. I'll start at the top and try everything. maybe by then the sun will have returned!

Someone I knew once fell asleep with a pizza in the oven and it stunk the place up bad. when he found it after waking up it was the size of a silver dollar. He had some service that did clean up after fires and they told him the only thing that gets rid of smoke smell is smoke. They came and filled the apartment with smoke only it was something like incense, it smelled good. try putting in in a box with some incence and people will think your a peace loveing flower child. Good luck.

Try putting the holster in a ziplock bag with dryer sheets for a few days, the dryer sheets should absorb the smoke odor.

Tough luck. I prefer they smell like cigars.

Perhaps place in a baggie with charcoal, which should deactive the smoke smell.

Put it in a bag with dryer sheets, charcoal, coffee grounds, febreeze, newspaper, apples, FDS, incense, and hang it in the sun for a few days.

The smell of smoke will go away.

Go the pet store and get you some carbon used for aquarium filters. Put it in a box with the carbon and let it sit for a few days.

Another tip, Use the carbon in your fridge and you'll never by baking soda again.

Oh, the possibilities for comments on that one! LOL

As far as the holster, I say some time out in the sun should do it.

Put it in a room with an ozone generator. Your local damage restoration company might be able to help or you might be able to rent one.

1) Put it in a sealed baggie with a bar of SAFEGUARD soap. Check once a week. Might take 3-4 weeks.

2) Put in small flat plastic container (like Tupperware) with a small bowl of white vinegar. Leave sealed until smell is gone. Vinegar may evaporate, so add as needed.
