Unmarked Holsters
Just found this floral, tooled holster with no maker's mark.If I was able to craft something this nice I would be right proud to put my name on it.

That is some nice leather work.
A lot of us do leather work as a hobby and just never get a maker's stamp. I'm in that group but have been thinking about ordering one. I do put a small mark on the back of my holsters so I know I did it.
Not that mine are that good.

That's a nice one. It looks very Myres-like. I have this one that is unmarked but appears nearly identical to a number of Myres holsters of similar style/size I've looked at (it's not as dark in reality as it appears in the photo):
I can only assume some made it out the door minus the maker's mark or, rather unlikely, there was someone making some very convincing copies out there somewhere.

Unmarked holsters
I agree it does look like a Myres, including the pattern. Most if not all makers would leave their stamp off if requested although that makes it difficult for us collectors.
The Myres in the middle is the same pattern.
Here's a Myres catalog cut showing that model top right.
Beautiful holster no matter who made it.
Regards,
turnerriver

Guys I agree it sure looks like a Myres.
Bama I have never seen one of yours in person but they sure do look like high quality holsters that would stand equal or better than any of the good old makers.

It is a fine piece of dead cow flesh for sure. What's with that free floating backskirt on it? It looks like that part is like a paddle that slides inside the waistband or something.

I bought a old colt SAA many years ago with this holster. The gun wasnt the one shown. I can find no makers mark on the holster. I belive the colt that was in it was from 1906 or so.

I have an old Fink Leather Shops holster I got with an old .22. Beautiful dark leather, supple and soft. Great floral pattern. Haven't seen another like it anywhere online.

Here's a nice one, completely unmarked and calfskin lined.
And this one, also completely unmarked. Hard to tell by the photo, but the leather lacing on the edge is a deep oxblood color

This one is a recent eBay find and the cut of the leather, the stitching, the carving and overall quality all point to it being another unmarked S. D. Myres holster.

I got one too. Looks a lot like the one above with the 44 Single Action.

Not to rain on your parade, guys, but there were many, many guys pounding leather out in the hinter lands. Very able craftsmen, trust me, they are not, except by the very barest possibility S. D. Myers holsters. Some of you guys are missing the point, the guy making it was making it for it's utility, basically, not for it's future worth based on it's "marque".
Like some have said, some did it after hours, between jobs or just didn't have a maker's stamp. If it is a quality item, it is a quality item, it isn't a Rolls Royce that somehow someone left the documentation off of. My first 15-20 years of leather items had no indication of who made them. It had nothing to do with the quality or the usefulness for future generations. I was naïve, and really didn't know any better, or frankly even care.

I'm in that group with ya. A makers stamp runs $200 to $300. I'd rather spend that money on supplies. I sometimes put a small bear paw stamp on my leather products, if I remember.

Can you point me to some examples of known fake Myres holsters? I mean, that would otherwise pass as real if stamped? Do you happen to recall any makers' names or anything like that?
I'm a budding collector and am very interested in such things. Thanks.

You know, I've never been that fond of floral carved holsters, but over the past two or three years, I've found my tastes changing in favor of it. I think it has something to do with the older I get, the more I appreciate genuine craftsmanship.
Tell you what, that's a beautiful piece of leatherwork, and as someone else mentions, it's very Myres-like in its overall look. Some holster makers just sort of slap and stitch something together for the mass market, but someone put some thought, time, and work into this one and its design. I'd like to have something like that...and a matching belt and maybe a 12-cartridge slide to go with it.
I love to daydream about stuff like that. I've priced authentic Myres stuff, and right now, it's out of my league. Maybe someday...

If you want to see a good many examples of vintage Myres, Eubanks, Heiser, Lawrence, etc., check out Vintage Gun Leather.
And they're all for sale.

Lee that is a fine combo. The holster is very similar to one posted in SAfireman's thread by Quinn. take a look and see if they are not both very similar.
Steve is one the good guys. Sure miss going to T town and seeing him.

One can be had MUCH cheaper than that, if you know where to look. I fought a mark for quite a while with the mentality of "If they like it, they'll let folks know where it came from."
When I got a stamp I had folks ask if they could send it back to be marked. Great looking rig OP!
