George Lawrence Holster Questions
Hello,
Came across this holster for sale and since it was embossed with my initials, I was kicking around picking it up for my collection. I was wondering if someone could possibly decipher the markings and approximate age of it? The seller states it fits a Colt Diamondback with a 4 inch barrel (which I don’t have), so I am curious as to what other types it might possibly fit. Thanks.

That is a nice piece of leather! No doubt the experts will be along shortly. I would bet you could use a K frame in it, probably an L frame as well.

Geo. Lawrence made great holsters. I have one for my Colt pre war Single action 44 that I bought in 1957. It's still in fine condition.

Diamondbacks are D-frames which are just a small bit larger than S&W J-frames. If the holster is indeed made for a Diamondback, a 4" J-frame should fit, if a tad loose. A K or L-frame might be too snug.
turnerriver should be here before long, if he sees this, to let you know what the holster's codes tell us.

Holster 211 is a plain Western loop style. "L" means it has a leather laced seam, "C" means it's chamois lined and "X" means it's left handed. Holster size number 650 is not in the chart that I have.
Edit: I just found holster size #650 on another chart - it fit's a 4" Colt Diamondback.

You better buy that holster, I have yet to find one with my initials on it.
650 is the Lawrence size code for a 4" Diamondback. Our moderator s&wchad has all the details right on the money. The holster was made after 1966 as that's when the Diamondback was introduced; the 3 digit size code system was implemented by Lawrence in late 1963 or 1964.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I REALLY appreciate the info. I was able to track down some info on the model numbers for these types of holsters, but didn't know what the other codes meant. Thanks again.

I've been known to buy fancy holsters that I like and then buy a gun to fit them. Sort of backwards from the regular way. :-)
