Default Great Uncle Roy - Holster I.D.

I have a George Lawrence Holster 25S 2 7/12 from my Great Uncle Roy. Where can I find out about more about this gun holster - how old is it, I know it was made in Portland, OR., and is in good to nice condition used very little, no wear with a belt on loop. What else should I know? and yes I have the gun to go with it. I plan to keep gun, holster and ammo together. Need to know more about holster.

Excellent video, FT. Thanks for posting it.
Gretchen, your holster was made after WW II & before 1964,
that's when Lawrence used the group number size identifier system.
I'm at work & don't have my charts with me but I believe group 2
was for large frame S&W & Colt revolvers; 7 1/2 refers to barrel length.
S indicates a special order sewn in sight protector. The model 25 holster
was one of Lawrence's most popular field type holsters.
Regards,
turnerriver

Thanks for the video and information. I did not know the age of the holster and that would fit with the ammo I have. I will put this information and anyother that I get with the holster and someday pass it on to the next family member.

Gretchen-

Don't store the gun in the holster. Tanning acids may cause it to rust and leather will retain moisture in the air, especially in a damp climate. No worries in normal wear, but don't leave the gun in the leather long-term.

May we know the sort of gun? If it indeed has a 7.5-inch barrel (measure from the front of the cylinder to the muzzle, as some of the barrel is in the frame), it may well be a Colt Single-Action Army, the famous Old West style revolver.

Default Great Uncle Roy's Gun

Colt SAA .38 WCF SN:348958 7 1/2" MGF 1927 in 70% to 80% condition. Some wear from holster, which it is not in and factory blueing still on gun. No box at this time, but looking.

Welcome from Texas Gretchen2410. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

Cool history, and that is what makes firearms really special.
