Default Holsters for guns I don't own...

Went to a nice local small town gun show yesterday and bought a holster for a Colt SAA, the thing is I don't have a SAA nor do I really have any desire to own one. But the Holster just looked so lonely just sitting there and the price was what I would consider a steal, but I don't need a SAA holster. It's a fairly plain looking H.H. Heiser 950 and if I would have just left it there I would still have 20 bucks in my pocket. Did I mention I don't have a gun to go with this holster? Well it looks like it's off to the big box of gun leather with the other holsters I bought for guns I don't have. Why do I do this goofy stuff??

My guess is...You saw a very well made vintage looking high quality holster and just couldn't stand seeing it just setting there...I have been quilty of doing exactly the same thing.....One time I actually bought the proper revolver to fit the holster......I admit I can get overwhelmed by quality workmanship............Just one of my quirks..PS; Just look at the quality of the leather and the almost perfect stitching........Fine buy...One day you will see the SA that fits it and probably sucumb to temptation....(Notice the plugged bottom! not that easy to do correctly)

The ONLY correct solution is that you must acquire a SAA to compliment that nice old holster. You now have a genuine need for a SAA.

Heck, frame it on a felt background. I'll bet you have a space on the wall in your gun room...

I buy all the used, good condition, leather holsters I find, they end up on somebody. I even buy used Kydex and nylon sometimes if the look interesting, you don't know what you or the kids will buy next week. I did one gunshow years ago, the only stuff I sold the first day were holsters, slings, and mag pouches. Picked up a nazi s.a. Mauser HSc holster for $4, sold it that day for $40 and the guy admitted it was a steal, also sold a M1909 holster that I wish I still had for my since aquired Smith 1917 ('37 contract). I love to pick- up all 1911 holsters any era or model if the price is not to bad, SASS Wild Bunch has dried up that market. A close friend had El Paso make him a Sam Browne cavelry set for him about 5 to 6 years ago it was 8 months and about $400, he ordered it with a USMC Officers Buckle, when he complained about the prepaid time frame they had it delivered in a week with a USMC General Officers buckle instead. It is a brown beauty!

There is a worse situation, condition, and I have it!

I buy the holster/gun combo, separately or together, and NEVER put the gun in the holster!!

Most of my holsters are for my blued guns, I truly fear the bluing wear that might result.

I have also bought several left handed holsters, I am RIGHT handed.

My advise is to just enjoy the workmanship of what you own. I do!

I have 1 holster i have no gun for but it's a reminder that the gun will be there when i find it,then it will feel as complete as i do.

Mine is for a 4 inch S&W 629 prelock,100% engraved.

Holsters and grips, I would imagine there are a lot of us who grab these items, even if they fit nothing we have, when the price is right. Not only does it scratch that collecting itch most of us have to some degree or another but these things also provide impetus to "complete the package". And then there's the consideration that sometimes such accessories are harder to find than the gun itself. Sometimes it's something else.

I don't own a Combat Magnum but I bought an older used Bucheimer Concealer tonight for a 2.5" Model 19 just because the price was right and the story was it belonged to a former MI State Trooper who recently passed. I'll clean it up and put it away with all the others sitting unused waiting for guns. If it comes out of retirement to carry the snub 66 I'd like to get some day, great. If not, it'll eventually get sold to someone who can use it. Either way, I like to think I did a small bit of good keeping a nice piece of old gear out of a dumpster or landfill when so much of the stuff we use today is cheap, temporary and disposable.
