Post Care of vintage leather

I have matching Tio Sam Myres "jock-strap" holsters, both in the light color and both obtained on this forum. One is for a 3 1/2" N Frame (currently my 3 1/2" M27 but hopefully some day for a RM). The other is for my K-22 Outdoorsman. I have a matching belt.

They are both in excellent condition. I don't want to "jazz" them up, but they are dull, which doesn't bother me that much, BUT, I want to protect them for future generations.

What are your suggestions? Many Thanks!

medxam

I went to Tandy Leather Factory and got a 4 oz bottle of "Eco-Flo" Carnauba Creme for my holsters, belts and boots. It's a water-based wax finish I find to be very durable.

I am not an expert by any means. Just bought what was recommended.

I saw on here one time where our leader Lee recommended Blackrock Leather and Rich. I found some for sale at the Louisville gun show and bought it. I've only tried it on a couple of things but really like the way it makes the leather feel.
Try it, I think you'll like it.

I use Cadillac for my boots and belts. I've used it on one holster and it did fine, but none of these are anywhere near vintage.

I have cataracts which makes reading difficult. I thought you were inquiring about the care of bondage leather.

There is a leather preservative that many museums use that I cannot remember "Renassiance Wax" (??). It usually is highly recommended.

All of the recommendations for Blackrock came from guys who
who maintain collections of high end vintage leather. They're right-
Blackrock is the best product I've used. Rub a little on with your fingers,
wipe off with a soft cloth & brush with a good shoe brush. You'll be pleased with the results.

turnerriver

The museums use Lexol. I've tried it and like it a lot. The museums use it and it's Ph neutral.

I need to correct my post. Renaissance Wax is used by the folks here to wax their guns.

I was thinking of "Pecard's" as I have seen that used by the museums. I have found "Lexol" to darken the leather a bit so I would be careful with it. But I still use it depending on the situation.

I wouldn't use Neatsfoot on any leather that you don't want softened. It affects the structure of the leather fibers. It's ok for an old baseball glove but not a holster. My 2¢
