Default My sewing project.... Cheapo Holster

1) I am very cheap and I get it from my dad.

2) I enjoy Frankensteining things together to make stuff I don't feel like buying.

3) I can sew and actually know a few different stitches... Although I generally sew in a very utilitarian fashion.

So... I made a holster. I had the padded portion of the strap of an old tool bag sitting in front if me.... And the wheels got turning. I remembered an old snap clip I had in a drawer and began throwing things together.

The tan portion is part of an old rigger belt. It goes through the part of the pad where the tool bag strap ran and the ends are sewed together. This holds the holster together and adds extra stiffness over the trigger so it cannot be pulled while holstered. The straps are velcro nylon straps I had, so I cut to length, burned, and sewed. The burning stops fraying.

It came out a lot better than I hoped. It holds the gun very securely. The thumb break works great. I sewed a piece of stiff plastic in one of the retention straps to give it a quick, smooth release. It rides snug to my body with zero wobble.

Not bad for zero dollars. I wanted an extra holster for when I go shooting and this fits the bill.

It holds my M&P 9, SD40VE, and even my Shield and G27.

Here are some shots... I figured my wife's purple flower blanket would make an appropriate background... What with all the needle work involved.

That is an interesting looking holster. There is a certain satisfaction in doing it yourself and when it's done for free from stuff that's just laying around it's even better.

looks good. saved your self at least $30. out of an old shoulder holster rig, it seemed to shrink over the years. took off the leather straps, used 1" nylon straps. one for the shoulder, and for around the waist. need to go to tandy to pick up the quick disconnect snaps. i saw one on line that a co. makes for hunters in the north. they make them for $160. it either wears on the middle chest or under the arm. i showed my buddy the other day, he liked it, and he said it fits my glocks perfect. i told him to get a nylon holster and i`ll help him make one w/ D rings from tandy`s. it is also comfortable to wear, in the car or walking.
