Default The rich patina of old leather

I have an old Victory 4" Model 10. Buying original leather for it is out of my price range so I bought a reproduction holster from IMA.

The holster looks great, and fits the revolver perfectly. Problem is, it looks like what it is: a brand new piece of leather. It is finished in russet brown, and marked USMC.

Does anyone have any tips on taking a new reproduction holster and adding a bit of age to it? I am thinking of those dark honey colored holsters that corpsmen and flight crews used to wear. How can I get that "look" on a new holster? And no, I do not want to stand security watches in the rain to do it. heheheh

Spray it down with Ballistol. It will suck it up and soften the leather quite a bit. You can also maul it a little. If you have kids or grandkids let them play with it for a while. I speak from experience. When I was a kid my uncle was in the same boat you are, he wanted a new holster vintaged up a bit, so he treated the leather and gave it to me for the summer. I wore it everyday, crawling through the woods, dirt, etc. We'd clean it a couple times a month and treat it again and by the end of the summer it looked pretty good. Not beaten up or ruined by any stretch of the imagination, but it looked like it had about 10-15 years of careful wear on it. I'll have to see if my mom can dig out a photo from one of the old albums and scan it. If it's around I'll post it for you.

Put beacon grease on it and let the dogs play with it, it will look worn!
