Default Need "Showy" holster suggestions...

Normally more into working guns, BUT I do have this one....it is a flawless factory nickel 19-3 2.5" wearing beautiful Executioner stags and a Tyler T-grip. Maybe not quite a BBQ gun, but still an eye catcher. Trouble is I do not have an equally showy holster for it to bring it out on special occasions. Trying to windowshop the dizzying number of makers is frustrating, so I thought you folks might have something in mind. Preferences: leather, of course, with some handsome tooling (though not florals, and not basketweave), retention of some sort, belt, not shoulder, and what color or tone best shows off nickle? Ideas and pictures appreciated!!!!

This is an L-frame but you get the idea. I know you said no floral but if you want to go fancy, it doesn't get much fancier than floral carving.

Here's some fancy non-traditional tooling:

A nicely-built plain rig can also be a bit fancy in its own right:

I know opinions on the definition of "showy" will vary. But if you can agree with me that sometimes...just once in a while... less is more them perhaps you could call this holster fancy. It is a custom made for my Lew Horton 24-3 and it goes so well with this gun that it is the most beautiful holster I have.

I love all the tool work on those pictured but when it comes down to where the rubber meets the road I think I prefer the un-tooled holsters better. Especially when they are at this level of quality. But that's just me.

It's the one on the left in this pic.

I don't like floral myself. But good carving does something. You really do need two-tone to show it off, though. My granddaughter's, here, you can hardly see the design.

I believe, in that one, he died the leaves too dark. This one, with lighter leaves, is a much prettier rig. Same leather smith.

If you really don't want floral -- and I suggest you reconsider that -- maybe exotic leather, like alligator or snake or ostrich or shark, etc.

I know, you said no floral. But Mr. Sam would turn over in his grave if I didn't seize the chance to show off his work one more time.

Thanks. Here is a picture of the belt that came with it, however the belt has shrunk almost a foot since alfonso built it in 1971! I see the son is still in business. Think it was about $65s back then!

Try this link. SAVOY LEATHER | Handcrafted Leather Goods . I just about fell off the chair when I saw this. I've signed up at my local Tandy's for holster making lessons. I want to do this.

Reaaly nice stuff, all of it...A lost art almost...The newer tight molded hoster designs restrict some of the more elaborte designs....We have some real good holster makers on this sight...Most are more modern but some still do the very elaborate carving......Neat stuff!!!

An EPS with my python. Grashorn stags. I've since back-dyed the belt and holster. Holster is a Tom Threepersons.

No basketweave but here's my EPS Threepersons for my Commander. I have the same rig with a fish-scale pattern for my Colt SAA. It's a little different from the basketweave but don't have any pics.:

Bama, that thing is NICE! That Alfonso rig has me fired up this morning as well

If'n I were to make another, it would be one of these two. One is less is more, the other...it's just more.

Know you said no basketweave, but this is a little spicy compared to my mundane weave.

I am struck dumb! I have been shown the error of my ways - feral, keith, -db-, BulletBob,redlevel, bamabiker, etc. these florals are nothing short of gorgeous, though I really love those oak leaves, too. ditrina's rig is nothing short of a work of art. Then, to top it off, I feel red-faced with shame for saying no to basketweave after seeing iggy's rig... Today will be spent exploring those links you guys have provided - thanks!

Here is a coupla more. The one with Bill on it is helpful for those of my age. Sometimes I forget who I am. None of these three are maker marked. The single pic with the sight protector was sent to me by noneother than our good friend Lawandorder, recently relocated to Northern Arkansas.

Another vote for floral, particularly as illustrated by -db-, bamabiker and redlevel. That is, IMO, pretty much the classic for leather, particularly for guns, knives and perhaps purses. I believe that bamabiker makes his own. Keep the business on the S&W site?

Hey Dave, just heard that Scout term recently. I'd always heard 'em referred to as Plains belts. I really like em but they aren't as popular as the Ranger belts are.

I made this one for a Ronson butane lighter. Didn't have much room for a basket weave.

IMHO If you are ruling out floral carved and basketweave, it is not
likely you will find a BBQ worthy holster for your revolver. If I were
you, I would watch the auction sites, especially Myres, Heiser, and
Lawrence. Here are a few examples I don't think are too shabby.

Left, a model 614 Threepersons by Myres with model 29.

Center, a model 728 by Heiser with Colt's Gold Cup NM.

Right, a model 34 by Lawrence with model 19.

If you want beautiful carving I’d have to second Karla Van Horn at Purdy gear.com. I haven’t seen anyone who currently works approach her artistry or for that matter any of the old timers either. She’s absolutely in a class by herself.

I hope he’s found something in the seven years since he asked!

One of the most visually pleasing holster I have seen in a while is on the
left made by our own Doc Barranti. I clipped it from an article in a gun
magazine.

Doc made the 2nd one for me several years ago. It is shown with my
model 19. It's his Ranger model with an added "dog ear". The belt is by
Dave Keith and the knife is a Sharps Bowie.

The 3rd one is my snub nosed model 10 wearing stag horn grips.
The Puma Prince knife is supposed to match. The holster, although
plain, is very elegant and one of my very favorites. It is an RSS
(Revolver Super Speed) by Ken Null.

Here are four that seems to meet OPs criteria of no floral or basketweave.
Don't know how "showy" they are. Guess that's in the eyes of the beholder.

Left to Right:

Lawrence 34V Special Agent pigskin outer, Haugen belt, Puma knife.
S&W model 10 with 2" barrel.

Black Hills shark, Crescent beltt, Piranha knife S&W model 642.

TJ chestnut gator, Culver belt, Piranha knife, S&W model 642.

Black Hills Lizard, Culver belt, Camillus knife, Colt's Agent
