Default Concealed Carry Holster (M&P 9mm)

I will be purchasing my first carry handgun (M&P 9mm full size) and am looking for a holster.
I am looking for IWB with a forward cant. They are easy to find online but there are so many out there I dont know which one to get. Price does not matter as I want this to be concealable and comfortable enough to wear all day.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

I carry a FS M&P9 in a DeSantis Cozy Partner. Excellent holster, stays put and cozy for $48 from Cheaper Than Dirt.

Get a hybrid with dual clips and adjustable cant. Comfy, secure and reasonably priced. Try Tommy Theis, White Hat or Alien Gear.

I carry my full size 40 and 45 in a Foxx with kydex J hooks.

I highly recommend kydex hooks over leather loops. I used to use a inside the waistband leather holster with leather loops. When I drew the gun it would pull the holster up first then the gun would come out. It's not a long delay but in a self defense situation we start out behind so I don't want any other delays.

Get kydex hooks or clips then use a heat gun, hair dryer or low temp oven VERY CAREFULLY and custom fit the kydex to your belt.

I really like the alien gear, but i want something I have to pull on to get the gun out..i know my body against it will keep it in but i just want that extra security. Can anyone point me to a holster i can adjust draw strength on?

nuke does your Foxx holster allow the gun to slip out if no pressure is place on the leather backing?

You will surely get a lot of answers/opinions on this question.

I have the Galco King Tuk and am very happy with it.

After many years of carrying service size pistols for serious business I only use good horse hide especially for IWB. The holster I highly recommend is the High Noon Holsters Down Under in horse with their superb belt clip. Bill

I still use IWB holsters with leather loops. I'm honestly not worried that some purported millisecond delay is going to be the difference between life and death in a self defense situation. I've also had kydex J-hooks not stay engaged with the bottom of my belt. Had a kydex fold over loop crack and fail completely. Never had a metal or leather attachment point fail me. My guns seem to pop out of my leather holsters well enough that speed isn't a serious concern. Highly boned and tightly fitted leather holsters may require some tweaking with wax paper or a plastic bag when new, but otherwise speed on presentation is really more a function of practice than it is holster material choice.

When I look at a Foxx kydex J-hook (top left) next to a Milt Sparks WS-1 leather loop (top right), it's seem clear to me which is the more stable and secure belt attachment method. Something more along the lines of the MS (tuckable) VM2 kydex loops (bottom photo) would be my choice over anyone's kydex J-hooks. J-hooks tend to transfer the gun's weight to the pants and not belt (with heavier guns being more problematic), which defeats the whole purpose of having a gun belt to bear the load. There are better J-hooks with more positive belt retention than the Foxx offering, but it still remains true, the more minimalist the approach to belt attachment, the greater the risk of potential problems.

I use 3 different holsters based on the level of needed concealment. Today, at work, I'm wearing a Remora holster. It's clipless and 100% concealed. I'm I'm retail and I don't want a customer freaking out. When deep concealment isn't necessary I wear a Cooks holster. It's Kydex with clip that goes over the belt. Working on my property I wear an Alien Gear hybrid. All are IWB.

I find that friction works fine for holding my fullsizes with the j hooks. I did get regular clips just in case they are just sitting there.

The best and most overlooked advice I have for wearing IWB is that along with a good quality gun belt, wear good quality underwear

No one talks about this, but it soon becomes apparent why when it starts riding around...

I have been rocking this for a while and really like it. Messing around with two clips is getting real old and this one is solid.

If you go Kydex you can increase the retention yourself using heat, ask the maker to put extra retention in or have adjustable retention built in (I haven't built one like that because no one has asked and I don't really see the point, but all the mag carriers I do have adjustable retention).

Here is the one I am wearing for a FS M&P and love at 4pm.

Just for fun, in Coyote Tan for a CZ...

Price doesn't matter! WOW! I wish I could shop that way

As you say and already know, there are many holster mfgs.

You mention "concealable". How will it be concealed? IWB and tuckable or OWB with an over-shirt or jacket/vest?

Personally I don't think you can beat a hybrid for comfort. The 2 clip/loop styles seem favorable to better distribute the weight of the holster and gun. They mold to your hip area if thats where you plan to carry. Some/most have adjustable cant either by adjusting the shell or moving the clips/loops.

Here is a grouping of hybrids - not complete but I will expand as I learn about others. At the bottom is a pretty full list of all holster mfgs. Enjoy your hunt.

How they may differ?
- main material/backing - leather, ballistic Nylon, fabric
- belt clips metal, plastic, belt loops with snap closure
- gun shell - injection molded, heat pressed Kydex, ballistic nylon, fabric
- main material color or dye
- various shell materials, carbon fiber, polymer, patterns, printing
- replaceable shell
- shell attachment hardware & method
- trial period
- warranty
- upgrades

Just went to the movies and wore this for the first time. Very comfortable, getting in and out of car, walking no problem staying in place.

I posted on this yesterday and there isn't much info but, the LGS has them and say they like them. Anyway, for $20 and I can return it if I don't like it, I picked one up. M&P9 FS fits very nicely and the holster has many configurations that it be adapted to. I don't have enough time with it yet but I like the extra magazine pouch, IWB/OWB, with/without thumb break, and other features. I haven't found the sweet spot for it IWB as its new to me.

Kangaroo Holsters : Kangaroo Holster (A4)

There are many quality choices out there so take your time. It took me a few before I found one for my 6 inch 28-2 that I like so I don't expect the M&P to be any different. Everybody is different so only you can determine what's right for you. Good Luck!!
