Maker specfic- Heiser
Time to look at examples of another of the great Makers, Herman Heiser.
We are fortunate that our Moderator in this section is very knowledgeable about Heisers. If you have an interest in vintage holsters you should pick up a copy of the new book out on Heisers. Turnerriver is a major contributor to it.
Here are two to start, the left came with a 1911 but I am not sure if that is what it is designed for Basket weave marked #528 on back, & a floral tooled j frame with hammer protector.
Lets see some others......

Lee it does not get much better than that combo!
I do got to say though that that old Colt looks much better at the same age than its caretaker does. :-)

Tony, thanks for the plug but let me say something about the book you refer to. Regrettably, the holster model numbers were transposed or reversed on many pages, as a result the holster information is largely inaccurate and not to be depended on. The information on Hermann Heiser and his family is interesting and, as far as I know accurate but the holster section is filled with errors. As a result I can't recommend it as a holster reference.
That being said here's a couple of Heisers.
Regards,
turnerriver
Carved and lined High Rise for a 3 1/2" .357 Magnum.
Model 708 with a M&P revolver.

I really, really, really like those flowered holsters. Need to keep my eyes peeled for an N-frame holster just like those.

The N-frame holsters are hard to come by. I'm just guessing, but it could well be that most revolvers of the period, other than the SAA, were made on a smaller frame, thus the preponderance of holsters for those guns. This is one of only a couple of holsters that I own which is actually marked for an N-frame. In this case, for a .38/.44 OD with a 6 1/2" bbl.

John please excuse my ill advised comment on the book. I just recently picked one up right in the middle of the move so did not look through it in close detail, just flipped through the nice holster images.
Thanks for alerting us to the errors.
db I picked up one on Ebay and I can not call up the title at the moment but as soon as I find it in all of these boxes will let you know.

I think Heiser is one of the finest old makers around. I had one that I sold to a fellow member that had acquired a 3 1/2" Pre 27 that needed a classic old holster for it. I hope he doesn't mind my posting a picture for all's enjoyment.

My Grandpappy gave me a custom saddle for graduation from highschool.
I can remember going down to Denver, and the Heiser shop to put in my order and again to pick it up.. The smells in the show room and all of the holsters and other stuff was amazing.
Still have the saddle too.

Went over into the Nations last couple of days.........
............................and tripped over the best Holster I have ever found in many years of looking for them.
A full flap, floral tooled, laced edge Heiser with a matching cartridge belt.
Holster marked 731 and with pencil .45 Colt 7 & 1/2.
Will try to get better pic up tomorrow.

Here are a pair of Colorado Saddlery Model 1065, K Frame Target holsters that I believe have Heiser connections. If I recall the story correctly, the Heiser family sold the company in 1945, and 4 of their employees left at that time and started Colorado Saddlery. An interesting side note from the same story is that Colorado Saddlery usually carved the safety straps on their holsters, while Heiser usually did not.
I acquired the Tan holster a few years ago from forum member turnerriver, and found the Cordovan holster on ebay a couple years later.

On the contrary, while some may be "prettier" than others, all are timeless, functional works of art from a bygone era...

How about an early 40's shoulder holster from a one time Heiser employee.
If inappropriate to post it with the Heisers, mods can (or I can) delete. Don't want to intrude on anyone's topic.

Here's an early 1950s Heiser I picked up on Ebay a few years
ago for my 3 1/2" pre-27. It's marked " MAG 3 1/2" under
the maker's mark.

Poor crazyphil only has 6 Heisers so far.
The first one I ever acquired was this old FBI model. It has the elongated
triple H, but no model number. I also have a black one that has the 457
model number and the football shape maker mark. They are identical.
2nd from left is a 459 made for Evaluators. The 9 in place of 7 indicates
the hammer protector.
3rd from left is an oxblood 757. 7 instead of 4 means carved.
4th from left is a 759 much like L&Os above. It is carved and
has the hammer protector.
5th from left is model 713 or maybe 718. They stamped one over the
other. It was made for VL&A. Carved and Laced. Made for Colt's
Official Police, but my S&W Model 19 fits ok.

I like the keen-looking maker's mark on this one. The style of marking is said to have been used between 1890 and 1910.

Hard to know on those bloody Heiser stamps. This mark was presented in leather, to Hermann's grandaughter when she was a 'young girl' amongst the other marks we know so well. She was born in 1922 so it would appear that this mark was still 'in use' by Heiser in 1930 (previously I had deduced she was born right after her parents marriage but FindAgrave corrects me on this).
One has to consider the possibility that this set of stamped leathers represented all the stamps they had ever used; and were not necessarily still in use. Two stamps are missing from the image of all these stamped leathers: the Heiser Denver on two lines, and the Heiser Denver on one line; both surrounded by a box (which is where these stamps got the misleading title of 'cartouche', an Egyptian symbol). In fact they are more of a postal mark; mail to Heiser in Denver (or any other maker with its name and city/state) would always reach its destination because the P.O. had city directories at the ready.

Looking at the snap, it appears to still have some black paint on it. I've been told that the black snaps were used prior to 1930 or prior to the war. From time to time I run across a fully black snap, not one with the black partially or most worn off. Anyone know?

I only have one Heiser.
And it's not a looker.
But it does have a Fed Stock Number.

Hello,
I believe I sold all my Heiser leather items and holsters except one tooled floral shoulder holster. I did have a Heiser Blackjack/Sap, Heiser hand cuff case and heiser gun belts. I mostly collect SD Myres and Exotic Leather holsters. I have had Fred Mueller, RT Frazier, Lawrence and one very special Apache made holster. I will add some photographs later.

Smith&WessonTearGas, welcome to the forum and we look forward to your photos. I've searched long and hard for a good maker marked sap and have yet to find one.
Pilgrim, I've never seen that model Heiser before, could you show the back of it ?
Dick, the brass and black snaps were used pre WW II, plain brown or black enamel snaps with HEISER DENVER stamped on them were first shown in catalog number 40, my example has a 1942 dated Heiser post card in it.
Here's two recent acquisitions. The combination pocket belt holster fits a 4" M&P and the other holster was made for a 1st series Match Target Woodsman and was special ordered without a safety strap.
Regards,
turnerriver

Hey Turnerriver -
You got me!
I thought it was a Heiser but it's not!
It's actually says J. M. Bucheimer 1968 on the back of my holster.
That might explain why you have never seen one!
Sorry about that!

I like when these threads are brought back up, because I will go back and look at all the pictures again, and see things I didn't pay enough attention to the first time. Bobby, I really like that holster. It even has most of the black enamel on the snap that is often worn off. Also, are the grips on the gun KB's? They look very nice too!

If you search you will find Maker Specific threads for SD Myres and Lawrence too. We would love to see your pictures of your holsters there!
