Default Kydex holster issue

I bought a Kydex IWB holster made by leatherneck tactical for my M&P 9mm w/ 3.1" barrel. It feels great, wearing this thing I felt like I wasnt even wearing a holster. Before I got this, all I have used was the uncles Mikes IWB holster before and this thing is head and shoulders above.

Wore it around for the day yesterday and ran into an issue I need some help with.

After wearing it for the day, I took the holster off and removed the pistol from the holster, only to find the safety was OFF! I was a bit freaked out. I wondered if I had not placed the pistol on SAFE before holstering. So, I reholstered and wiggled the pistol a bit (about the same justling one would expect from EDC. ) I then unholstered the pistol and the safety was OFF.

I am considering removing the part of the holster that comes in contact with the safety. Before I did this, I wanted to discuss this here.

What are your thoughts?

Sean

While I am no familiar with the specific holster you have, I do use my compact as my primary carry gun and it does not have a safety. As long as the trigger guard is fully covered and the gun is secure their should not be an issue.

On a side note, I carry my 1911 sometimes and just about half of the time when I go to take the gun off I notice the safety is off as well. It bothered me at first but now it doesn't. I know that the trigger is covered and nothing can pull the trigger, the gun will not just go off.

If its the M&P I would throw the safety away. It's about as useful as you know what on a bull

I had an opportunity to speak to the folks at Leatherneck tactical. Really nice guy I would buy another holster from him just based on his attitude. We talked a little bit and figured out a way to make this work. I am just going to take the Dremel and remove a little bit of a kydex material around where the safety is.

Leather.

A holster of any material you have to modify to make work with your gun doesn't promote much confidence with me.

I had that problem with a leather IWB also with a Colt Commander. Pulled it out once and found the safety was off. It will get your attention.
I just figure that there is a lot of movement, back&forth and up&down during a normal day. Unless the holster is designed just right to cover and protect that safety, you're going to run the risk of it being disengaged.
Matters not what it's made of.
