I want a BBQ rig!
Well, I hope to get one in the future... if I only could afford it...
FYI, I like most Nick Nolte movies, especially Extreme Prejudice. Love this movie.
With a little research I have found out that Chisholm's Trail is making them and I really love their adaptation of Jack Benteen's rig.
I admire Texas Ranger's, wish I could be one. With that being said, I'd never wear it with that type of belt buckle as seen in the picture. Simply out of respect.
Anyway, I leave this link right here for you to look around.
Historical Holsters | Old West Leather, Buckles, Cowboy Holsters, Custom Western Belts
They have beautiful products and I'm sure they are worth every penny.
Christmas is coming up folks, so if you like to get me a present... just saying

If you want something go buy it. Money is only good if you use it to buy something you want. It only cost a little more to go first class. Are those enough reasons? Larry

I'm gonna have to agree with jimmyj on this one. Dave makes one heckuva nice BBQ rig. And the thing that makes 'em even nicer is that they are good "usin' rigs" to boot. His handle here on the forum is actually keith44spl.

Is that one of your pistols and rigs? I'd love to see some photos of the pistol by itself and know who did the engraving.

It's my rig that Dave made for me, but that's his pistol in the picture. A lot of his handguns have some beautiful engraving work on them.

I build just a few rigs a year.......
I build em to use.....note the relief at the grip,
there's room to take the proper grip on the pistol for the draw and firing without the need to reposition.

That holster is identical to the one worn by Sgt. Joaquin Jackson of the Tx Rangers, who was the technical advisor for Extreme Prejudice..... I had the pleasure of working with Jackson on locating an escapee from jail. He, along with a Border Patrolman and I went into Ojinaga Mexico, and came back empty handed............

Mr. Joaquin Jackson interview with Texas Monthly,

The second amendment is not about hunting,
I personally don't hold Jackson in all that high of regard.

After hearing that video clip, I am surprised he is STILL an NRA Board member! I would definitely save your money that you would have spent on HIS book and use it on a fine BBQ rig.
BTW, all the BBQ rigs pictured here are amazing!

It may help in understanding Ranger Joaquin Jackson's thoughts and opinions to know a couple of things:
1. His oldest son, after discharge from the USMC, was convicted of murdering a homosexual man during an armed robbery, and is now serving time in a New Mexico penitentiary.
2. One of Jackson's most troubling investigations involved a senseless murder and assault of 3 people on a peaceful boating trip on the border by 3 adolescent Mexican boys out shooting rifles without supervision. Straightforward thrill killing without any signs of remorse, basically started shooting at people in a boat on the river, then hunted them down to finish them off. Killed a young man, seriously wounded the wife, and also wounded the river guide, then ate lunch and went home.
I may not agree with Ranger Jackson on every point, but the man has certainly earned the right to his opinions, after about 10 years as a Texas DPS officer another 30 years as a Texas Ranger.

Well,
All I'm gonna say is Jackson doesn't represent my values and my NRA.
Kinda like an ol catfish talking outta both sides of his mouth.
He supports everyone's rights to 'keep and bear arms'....
But, with limitations toward all us law abiding folks.
I personally don't give a flip what's happen in his personal life to sour him up on the rest of us....
I just know a load of horse manure when it's shoveled up like that.
Now, back to the subject at hand..........
There's a Lawman wearing this rig sumwhere's up Montana way.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It is not my intent to be rude or argumentative, but my point is that we must understand what motivates those with whom we disagree on 2nd Amendment issues in order to effectively communicate our positions.
Here in Colorado there is a gentleman named Mauser who has been very active in recent years stumping for several "gun control" measures. I have not met Mr. Mauser, but I know that he lost a teenaged son in the Columbine School incident. I do not agree with Mr. Mauser, but I can certainly empathize with his opinions, and I understand that these issues are so closely tied in to his emotions that it would be extremely difficult for him to relate to any logic or reason in discussions of these issues.
Down in Texas there is a gentleman named Jackson, who has formulated an opinion to the effect that certain types of firearms do not belong in civilian hands. I do not agree with Mr. Jackson, but I understand that he has lost a son to serious alcohol abuse leading to a calculated crime against homosexuals resulting in a murder. I also understand that Mr. Jackson has been exposed through his long career in law enforcement to many victims of horrible crimes. I believe that Mr. Jackson's opinions have been strongly affected by his emotional reactions to tragedies. I doubt that any amount of reason or logical analysis is likely to change those opinions.
I do not dismiss these people because I disagree with their opinions or conclusions. I try to understand them and respect their rights to speak their minds openly.
I apologize for the thread drift here, but I believe these are important points to understand.

Ray, no need to apologize you made some very valid points, that all of us need to remember. At this point and time, those of us who enjoy the various shooting sports need to be the sane and sober ones. The last thing we need is for the public at large to think of us as loud uncaring louts, and bullies.

Those 'Ranger' buckles are available to the general public...
Nice buckles just finish's it off....even a workin rig
Not all of those style of buckles are 'Ranger' buckles....
Like you I prefer my own style.
I've worn this set below for over 30 years..........
Garcia's 3/4" and 1" sets
Been sporting these buckles on and off for the last ten years on several different belts....
Vogt Gold River 3/4" and 1" sets
.
Su Amigo,
Dave

Great work as always,Dave. Wouldn't mind one myself as my swivel skills are non existent.
This is one of the few I've made that qualify as a bbq rig...hardly on the same plain as a nice Sheridan rig. Customers don't usually like the price tag of good buckle sets or mine don't anyways.

TxTrooper,
Welcome to the forum. It's about time.
Those Texas inmates do some mighty fine work.
Do they still do this kind of thing? I was under the impression they didn't produce leather good anymore.

Here's a holster for a Texas beef B-B-Q. Ooops. Has a Colt in it.

Hi Iggy, Thanks for the welcome, I was slow getting started. TDCJ still operates the craft shops. The pants belt and buckle set in one of the photos is only a few months old.

My understanding is you must be either an employee of TDCJ or law enforcement to order directly from the prison. The prison gift shop sells inmate crafts. Also, the Texas Ranger Museum sells a few items too. Both have websites.

Lovely thread that isn't at all what I expected it to be. Including the thread drift, which in my view contributed in a worthwhile way :-). Cheers to all.

Iggy, in the old day's a friend, of a friend of that friends second cousin knew somebody who worked at a TDCJ unit who knew an inmate that bent leather in the craft shop. You eventually got the mailing info for that inmate or the name of the TDC employee and the deal eventually got done. It was a little less complicated if you were in LE, anyway you get the idea. I still have a ranger buckle set with my initials on the keepers. The belts were so well made you might outgrow it but it would never wear out. More commercial now and here is the link to the gift shop. Although belts aren't advertised so I don't know if they are still available.
P.S. Having read the fine print the website does mention: "Additional items are available through special order."
Giftshop: Texas Prison Museum

I have in the past only fleetingly thought about owning a BBQ rig....
that has now changed since TxTrooper's rigs have graced our pages. Now..... I do want one.

The inmates a the Wyoming pen use to do fine leather work too.
I have tooled citation book cover that I got from there. We were issued our duty gear so, I never bothered to get a gun rig.
They moved the prison out in the sticks, and no longer have a gift shop as far as I know.
