Default Heiser Holster Model 2710

A while back I bought a used copy of the book "Packing Iron". The book is really interesting and has some fantastic pictures. I recently was able to get a holster like I remembered seeing in the book. It is a Heiser Holster Model 2710.

This beautiful dark brown holster is constructed of the "finest Oak Tanned California skirting leather". This right-hand piece incorporates a deeply recurved throat profile, semi-contoured main seam with top and bottom HHH rivets, and "Mexican hand carved" pouch. The contoured back skirt secures with two integral loops and features a border ornament of 79 solid nickel spots. It fits a 4 3/4 inch Colt Single Action Revolver. Heiser offered Fancy Spotted Holsters throughout the 1920s in a number of sizes and ornamental variations. It cost $5.25 when new in the 1928 Heiser catalog. A holster just like this (only longer) is prominently featured on page 191 of the book "Packing Iron" by RC Rattenbury.

I hope you all will like it. I don't think that I have seen many like it shown here. Maybe the spotted holsters just aren't that popular. Here are a few pictures:

That is impressive.
The 2 rivets would cost that much today.

It ain't nothin' if there's no gun in it. Let's see the finished product.

Spotted holsters are really neat, in a class by their selves. Congrats on a good find!

Unfortunately I only have a 5 1/2 inch Colt SAA. Now if you would like to send me a 4 3/4 inch 1st generation Colt SAA to help complete the package, I would greatly appreciate it.

My BIL was over and just noticed the holster on the left from the catalog page above looks like it has a Swastika as the pattern. I wonder if they would make custom patterns, and if not, and the 3 above were it, why did they use the Swastika pattern at all?

The swastika was quite a common decoration before its use by the Third Reich. You'll find vintage holsters with swastikas on the buttons/snaps, too.

WOW, the bidding on this one really jumped!

Nice old spotted holster with the triple H rivets.

For some reason I can't get the closed auction to post. It is auction for item #183248990974.

I think I figured this out. Here is the nice holster that I referenced in the above post.

I have mixed thoughts when I see actual auction prices like that. I'm happy for the seller. My guess is that it brought way more than he ever dreamed he'd get.

On the other hand I think of all the 'common' Heisers I see listed in average condition that seller's are trying to sell for similar prices. Extortion might be a better word to describe those kinds of listings. We pretty much know which sellers I'm talking about. No names need be mentioned.
