Default Got some stuff caught up

During my 3 day "time out" I got some leather caught up.
Some leather for a forum member. A 1911 holster and a 6" 686 holster.

Also finished a left hand Bowie knife sheath for a local here in town.

A couple of rifle slings, one modeled by my coach gun.

Group shot;

Don't know why but I decided to show the backs.

The client received the holsters and rifle slings and is very happy with them.
Apparently his cats smell our cats on them. Either that or they like the smell of leather.
He sent me this picture, they look better with real guns in them then they do with plastic blue guns.

Default I am that lucky customer!

I will never buy any gun/knife related leathercraft from anyone but Wayne (Snubby) as long as he has a mind to create and hands to sew. It's as if he took my guns and poured liquid leather around them. They fit as if the leather is part of the metal, yet they slide right out with ease. I am truly amazed. We are accustomed to so many mass produced, cookie-cutter, throw-away items, that authentic craft is all the more amazing.

His throw-back rifle slings are amazing too. As soon as I get them mounted I will forward pictures to him too.

Very nice work. You're basket stamping is very well executed. BTW, it helps when you show the backs. I'm always interested in how other holster makers sew their belt loops etc. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, I'm glad ya like 'em. I did wet the leather to encourage it to fit just right.
With holsters that have retention straps, I like to make it so the guns'll slip out easily. I feel there's no need to mold the gun close to the leather unless that's the only means of retention.

Thanks, I like the way basket weave looks. I also like to see how others sew up the backs.
I have seen leatherwork that looks good from the front but looks sloppy from the back.

That's the third knife sheath I made for the same fellow. He's left handed and collects Bowie knifes.
This one's a multi-fit;

And a LH sheath for his favorite Buck knife;

He likes that "Old School" look.
Just for fun, this is a matching pair I made for a Cherokee friend.

She wanted me to "Indian them up" a little.

Keith--I just took a picture of the back and sent to Wayne (Snubby). He will post for you.

Snubby, you have a gift!

Just hopin' the leatherwork isn't too hard on your hands with the neuropathy.

Looking forward to my pocket holster and another project to follow soon after!

The only part that gets a bit tough is the cuttin' of the leather and my wife helps me with that. The rest is actually good therapy for my hands.
Here's some belt pics you requested.
Saddle tan 2 1/2" wide basketweave customer supplied buckle.

Brown 1 1/2" wide angled basketweave with solid brass buckle.

1 1/2" wide handstitched, double layer, angled basketweave with solid stainless steel roller buckle. This one's my favorite.

I like that keeper. Can't quite make out the stamp, though. Is it a raptor of some kind? And is that the paw print stamp on the belt's tip? Also like your use of basket weave with the stamp that's usually used for border stamping. Nice combination of patterns. Can't beat those stainless roller buckles, either.

The stamp on the keeper's a buffalo skull and that's a wolf print on the belt's tip.
One of these decades I'm gonna get a better camera..

Snubbyfan, I have been meaning to post a "kudos" on the holster you made me a while back. Excellent quality and looks to match. I was just wondering if you could do a belt to match my holster as it just doesn't look right with a cordovan color. Feel like taking a belt order?

Works for me. I may not be able to match it exactly but I should be able to get the color at least in the same neighborhood.

I like 'em Snub, you did a great job getting that light dye consistent. With hand dying mine just usually end up a darker shade

Honestly, I just followed your advice.
I applied the dye and let it sit to soak in, spread out and dry. I just left it alone for a couple of days and worked on other projects. I've also found that I get the best results using oil based dye.

How do you determine belt size. From middle hole to the buckle? May as well get me a black one for the snubbyfan holster you made me.

My favorite method is to measure from your favorite belt hole to the inside of the buckle.

Thumbs up pocket holster

Hey snubbyfan,

The pocket holster arrived today, and it now resides in my pocket with my 642. Letting you know that I.............like it. Thanks for the great communication and turn-around time. Your time-out period had some benefits after all. This is my first and only foray into the world of leather pocket holsters.

Mine is on the way! I'm sure it will fit my 351PD as neatly as does your 642, rock doc. I agree -- a little time-out for snubbyfan turned out to be just what the doctor ordered!

Right on time, my snubbyfan pocket holster showed up in the mailbox this morning! Got to share these two pictures showing how he crafts these, especially the curve of the leather to fit the outside of the leg. Ingenious!

Couldn't be happier with this, Wayne. Thanks!

Thanks, glad ya like it. Puttin' the curve in just kinda made sense. If it's gonna fit the gun and the pocket it might as well fit around the leg too.
