Default Question for Holster historians: NYPD?

I am buying a late 1940s pre-Model 10 supposedly ex-New York Police Dept. I didn't pay extra for the pedigree, but I am curious, and as far as I can tell, there are no shield markings. It does come with the holster pictured below. At this time, I don't have the holster yet and no other pictures. While it does match pictures of NYPD holsters I've found in old threads in general style, I haven't found a match.
I'm also wondering whether the P.P.S. on the back refers to the manufacturer or whether this holster might be originally for a Colt Police Positive Special.
Any insights are appreciated.

That looks like a Jay Pee duty holster for the NYPD. later ones had no strap and they came in a swivel type, too. As for the holster, the Colts were way before my time, but at one point an officer had a choice of a S&W or a Colt. I thought it was the Colt Official Police, but I could be wrong. As for markings, the guns were not the property of the NYPD, but the officer who paid for them. I recall way back when the armorer would stamp the officer's name or shield number on the backstrap, but I am not sure if that was mandatory or when it ended.

There's a member here named RM Rivas. He is the expert on NYPD police guns. If you gave him the serial number, he could probably tell you which officer it was issued to and when.

And that holster was certainly never issued. Way too clean. Must have sat in a locker for 20 years.

That confirms my suspicion. The gun is in good shape, but has holster wear consistent with years spent on active service in a duty holster. This holster, on the other hand, does not look like it spent years on an officer's belt. I'm buying it from a gun shop in New York, so the NYPD connection is probably legit, but the seller may just have grabbed a suitable holster from a surplus batch to make the package look more attractive.
Thanks for your input! I'll try to contact Mr. Vivas about the gun. I'm familiar with his website.

No, it's Britt Firearms on Mineola Blvd., also on Long Island if I interpret Google Maps correctly.
Mr. Vivas didn't find this serial number in his records, by the way. Interesting since the gun somehow has "service revolver" written all over it, although according to him the missing shield number for a gun of that period speaks against NYPD. But there were lots of other armed, uniformed agencies in the area during that time: Transit, Housing Authority, Sanitation etc.; we'll see what the gun letters to.
I may send you a PM sometime if you don't mind. I have another NYPD-related question that doesn't really belong in the holster forum and that I would like your advice on.

I know Britt Firearms well. It's at the Mineola train station and right next to Winthrop hospital. I used to live 10'minutes away from there. Guy is a good gunsmith too.

I was gonna say the same thing about the missing shield number too. Guns from back then had the shield number of the officer on them. But Nassau county PD could have had it. Their academy was only a few miles away. Not to mention housing, transit, corrections, etc

PM me whenever you want.

I never had the model 10. DAO 64 then the glock for me. A retired guy sold his whole duty rig and model 10 on gunbroker a few months back. Sold for around 500. I almost bought it. Wish I had.
