Default Proper care of my gun leather?

Stupid question, but what should I be doing to clean or preserve my gun belt and holsters?

Kel brand pure silicone spray is what I have used for years to maintain the color, and to protect from the elimants.Spray a little on a clean cloth then rub the holster down.Keeps my holsters looking and feeling new going on 30 + years now.

Blackrock Leather 'N' Rich is probably the best product.

Mink oil on the outside, worked into stitching and edges with an old tooth brush.

Spay silicone on the inside.

Done.

I would be very cautiuos of using anything like mink oil that will soften your leather. there are a lot of good products out there but use something that won't turn your leather soft. Go to a good shoe store and let them know what you are looking for, you don't want you holster soft, or they would be made out of split leather, like suede.
thats my 2 cents worth and it didn't cost a penny.

I had seen this said many times on different forums. I finally decided to try some about a year ago. I can only describe it as "magic in a can". It is amazing what it can do to leather. Try it, you'll like it!

My recommendations:

1. If the leather becomes soiled it can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth or sponge, then allowed to air dry thoroughly (no heat lamps, ovens, etc).

2. Minor nicks and scratches can be touched up with leather dye.

3. An occasional light application of neutral shoe polish on exterior surfaces will help maintain appearance and prevent wear and tear.

4. Avoid liquid products and all oily products, which have a tendency to overly soften the leather over time and leave the leather limp and useless.

It is yours so you can do what you like with it. But some treatments do more harm than good.

Personally I would not use anything on a good leather holster except some Kiwi Shoe Polish. Anything else is liable to soften up the leather which is NOT a good thing.

When I first started out I used to always buy Natural or Tan colored holsters but now only buy Black. The Black is much easier to keep looking fresh or to touch up (a little black Kiwi goes a long way) and it also blends in much better with Bluejeans which has become my daily garb.

When I shot high power, I used Turner Military Leather Dressing that they had made special for them by Pecards. It's a bees wax formula that doesn't soften leather. Over that goes a good leather polish of the appropriate color.

Me too. Black Kiwi on my black holsters and as close as I can get to the shade for my other ones.

Thanks folks.

I'm thinking a purchase of some show polish is in order. :-)

I find that when I use Black Kiwi Polish on my belt and holster rigs if I buff it with a microfiber cloth for a few extra minutes it takes all the excess off and I do not get any on my clothing. Just use a thin coat and buff the heck out of it and you should be good to go.

I'm thinking Future Floor Finish® would be a bad idea...
