Default What does this SD Myres holster fit?

I have this early predecessor to a paddle holster, but what does it fit?

I thought that it was for a Colt Pocket Hammerless, but the barrel sticks out too far in my opinion.

So, is that right? (and I'm nuts) or what model does she fit?

Thanks gents

Dave,

I don't have that exact model, but it swallowed up a Galesi 25 ACP of a somewhat larger size....

Sorry I can't be of more help, but I do have a similar style holster for a 2" J-frame and I love the way the "paddle" works. I like it better than a "real" paddle holster. Once you find the right gun, I bet you love to use this.

If you decide to get rid of it - let me know.

Dave,

post up some photos of yours (the J frame 2")

I would love to have one of those....I think that I may even have a BBQ worthy J frame around here somewhere....

If the one I have was intended to fit the Colt that way, then I will likely keep it. I have a pair of Sambar stags for the 1908 and it would make a nice package.....I'm not much on buying a gun to fit a holster, but this one could be the exception?

It wasn't intended to fit that way. You need to find what fits. I had a Myres for several years thinking it was for a 1911. Finally got a 1911 and it didn't fit. Turns out it fits a Browning HP and I've owned 2 of those all along!

Dave,

That's a pretty neat little rig you have. I guess the Myres would make it either way you wanted, strap or not.

Maybe ole Turnerriver will be along to educate us all.

Thanks for sharing the pics Dave.

I'm currently away from my collection and catalogs and have been scarce the past several months- I apologize for not being more present here.
That model is called a Barton or Barton's Special holster. I've never been able to determine who Barton was but he and Tio Sam Myres came up with a great design. They were made for revolvers or automatics and could of course be ordered with a variety of options. They were and are practical holsters that can be worn in a number of ways.
Your fine example was made for a small auto, the PPK is a good guess. It was not not made for the Colt as you surmise. Here's one that is maker etched " Bernadelli 9 mm" which I think is a pistol much like the PPK.

This one was made for a Colt Diamondback revolver.

Thanks for posting yours- they're not encountered that often.
Regards,
turnerriver

Thanks for that tidbit.....I don't own a Walther, nor do I think that my dad does...I guess that I could tote it around the gun shows and try a few different models on for size....that would be a funny thing, buying a gun to fit your holster???

Thanks again Turnerriver.....ps, I saw your post about this model on the Colt forum and THAT holster is simply gorgeous

Turnerriver beat me to it, I couldn't find these photos. Here are 3 views of a like new Myers Barton Special for a 6" K-T. Love it and am going to make one for my 7 1/2" Colt OMT, also pictured. Should go nicely together!

Here is a photo of the 1940 Myres catalog page that shows the Barton's Special holster. The holster remained in the catalog up into the 1970's. My 1934 catalog does not list this holster. It is still a practical holster today.

The "Paddle Holster", what is the purpose of this type ? For someone who did not wear a belt, maybe just suspenders ? I'm guessing here. I could see if one did wear a belt, it would lend support. Then I could picture the "handiness" of being able to put it on and taking it off a few times a day without threading up your belt every time you put it on or took it off. The more I think about it, the more I like. Can someone extend some knowledge here please.

Not sure if the above inquiry is about paddle holsters generally , or Barton Special in particular , but the reasoning is similar , if not totally the same.

The primary apeal is the easy on , easy off. Secondarily the paddle would again a measure of support and stability from a properly fitting pair of trousers beyond the belt alone., making the proverbial "heavy duty gun quality belt" less critical in comparison to everyday dress belt.

The idea of using a paddle holster with beltless trousers probably worked best with very small/ light guns to the extent it worked at all. Never say never, and I'm sure someone will chime in about carrying a steel J Frame in a paddle with their SanaBelt slacks.
