Default Pseudo-Avenger

I had a holster-maker friend put a guy in touch with me a while back, and this ended up being the fruits of our collaboration. His body type required something that pushed the gun away from his body so a Bruce Nelson/Avenger style holster seemed to fit the bill, and he left the rest up to me.

I ended up going a little overkill on the project but am happy with the end result. Originally a lined holster was what I wanted but in an effort to minimize bulk, opted for a rough out construction. The trailing loop features a 'hidden belt loop' that minimizes clothing snags and also adds a center welt to the holster for extra rigidity - something I picked up on from Ray @ Lobo when I first started playing with leather. Skiving in non critical areas let me take about a third the thickness out of that rear wing from mock up to production model. It has a stitched sight channel to help locate the front sight during reholstering and the rest is pretty obvious. A few mag pouches to compliment and a plastic reinforced belt make the cherry on top so stick a fork in this one - she's done

First class job there, Rob. A nice even finish on rough-out leather can be a real challenge.

Much appreciated, Ray. The mock up had a much nicer finish than this one, with a time crunch I just had to be happy with it.

That is a really nice rig! Is the stitching by hand or machine?

All very nice.
On the rough side finish, did you smooth it down with something? And if so what?

I like this one a lot, especially the open toe design. Your usual excellent work.

Much appreciated! This is all machine stitched. Double stitching a belt by hand is at the bottom of things I'd like to do

This portion of the hide had a tight nap due to splitting, when I applied final finish I lightly rubbed the rough out with a tool handle to pack it and then went back with a light wire bristle to raise it just a tad. On this mock up I didn't have to touch it but it was on a thicker/junky part of the hide I couldn't make use of for a production piece.

Thank you sir! Can't wait to find time to translate it to a revolver.
