Default Unique holster design

Attended a local gun show this weekend and picked up a nice M&P Target (1905-1st change) with this unusual, well-made and much loved holster. There is no apparent maker mark and it may very well be “home-made”. I seem to recall seeing a similar holster posted here some time ago but am unable to come up with a search key word to find it again.

Can the experts help me identify the style . . . if it has a name . . . and possible makers?

Russ

Nice holster, Russ. I think that shortened skirt is associated with Texas somehow although I'm not sure why I think that. I would call the style a Mexican double loop holster but I'm looking forward to more input here.
Regards,

Hi Russ:

I may be way off base here, but don't they call this style of holster a "jockstrap" holster?

Someone a lot more knowledgeable should be by, shortly.

Cool looking holster.

Regards,

Dave

Nope, not a jock strap.

This is the Jock Strap style.

I think yours is considered a Texas style holster.

It's either Texas or California loop I think.
I learn something new every day. Is the jock strap a separate leather assembly that the holster is in, or is it just decorative embellishment?

Yep, learned something here again today! You guys never let me down, A jock strap holster huh? I certainly like it, and the OP's vintage holster. The worn and loved look is appealing to me.

I'm with turnerriver: I'd call that a Mexican loop holster. Really common style way back then, from what I understand. Yours is pretty neat!

What era would that have been? The M&P target . . . that appears to have spent much time riding in it . . . is circa 1907.

Looks like a homemade slim jim style with Mexican double loop. Interesting style.

Style is known as the Mexican double loop. Very common from the late 19th Century to mid 20th Century. Origins probably in the southwest US or northern Mexico. Identifying the actual maker without a trademark or other documentation is not possible.
