Myres Jockstrap Holster Model 445
I had been looking for a Myres Jockstrap holster for quite a while. I got my first one just over a month ago and now have a second. Soon after seeing Linda’s (digi-shots) fantastic holster, I spotted this one. I discovered, in one of turnerriver’s expert commentary posts, that he had one of these holsters. From a picture and scan in his commentary, I thought the holster was a Model 142C, but I think that is for a Dale Myres holster (not sure when catalog was printed). I have seen models 190, 999, 445, and 545 listed for SD Myres possibilities. Not sure which one this is or the differences in each. This one is fully lined and laced.
When I received the holster, I was amazed at the workmanship, and the thoughts of how time consuming it must have been to make, with all the lacing. I was hoping it would fit my 3 ˝ inch Model 27, but it is too small. Might be for a K frame gun. Here are a couple of pictures:
UPDATE: After finding out that Myres sometimes etched their holsters like Heiser did, I looked under the holster and found "445 line + lace" etched on the back skirt. So now I know it is a model 445. I changed the title to reflect the new information.

That's gorgeous. It's one of those holsters that if you don't have a gun to fit in it, you want to go out and buy one just for that holster.

The lacing is unreal. I have never saw anything like that. 2 ifs. If it was mine I would find a gun that would fit in it so I could carry and show it off. If I was rich I would have one made like it. Larry

WOW! Very nice!! Sorry it doesn't fit your 3 1/2".
If I were you... I'd be out shopping for a new gun!

Here is a different view showing the lacing:
Since I have never done anything like this, I have NO idea what it entails. I looked around online a while to try to find someone that laced a complete holster like this, Purdy Gear has one almost like it, but the "T-shaped Jockstrap" section is not laced.

I'm sure some guys find it easy to do but I made my wife a billfold with lacing all the way around and it was a pain in the butt for me. I can't imagine doing that holster but it really is beautiful.

I've laced one.....That was the first and last.
Laced a pair of Ox Bow Stirrups once also, same thing, first ant last.
It's purty, but not all that wear resistance.
But, pretty none the less.
.
That style of lacing in popular with the craft shop products. Here's a link to a how-to-book.

Dang, that is a nice holster. Beautiful carving and lacing. "Tito" just rolled over in his grave when he saw that piece of art being "propped" with a half roll of toilet paper. Just kidding-that is a beautiful piece of work.

I can definitely tell it would not be wear resistant at all! This one will go in the "nice to look at" section.
I wonder if this is called the "double loop lacing"?

That almost made me shoot coffee out of my nose! I guess I should let you know it is actually a roll of Self-Adhering Elastic Bandage. Don't want Tito concerned, unless I could bring him to my house to make me a pile of his holsters. I kept trying to keep the camera steady, while holding the holster in my hand, but the pictures were too fuzzy , so I grabbed what was handy.

Looks like double loop to me. I lace just about all the holsters I make. It's a lot of work and time consuming but I really like the look.

That's a good lookin' hunk of leather there.
I double loop laced a holster before, once. I may do another one day.
I remember sitting there going, "thru the hole, thru the x, thru the hole, thru the x."

Congrats on scoring a very nice looking rig!
I'd go crazy trying to do all that lacing.

That style of lacing was common in leather good sold in the local markets and shops across the Rio Bravo in the 1940's thru the early 60's. Billfolds, purses, coin & key holders, and holsters as well. Haven't been back across much since the early 1970's, so don't know if it is still common or not.

A good friend of mine saw my holster and wanted badly to get one like it. I sent him pictures of mine and he sent them to Purdy Gear and asked how much it would cost to duplicate it.
They sent him back the following: "I can make this holster, no problem with or without the lacing. Laced as shown the holster would run $1425.00. Sadly, lacing is not only an expensive material to deal with but it is incredibly time intensive to do and is unbelievably hard on the hands. If that is a bit out of line, I can do the same holster simply stitched for $400.00."
He said he would pass and made me promise him first chance at mine if I ever sell. I am very happy with my "original" SD Myres.

Hey! Maybe we could get a discount if we did a group buy. Who's in?

BTW, I know that he could find someone to do it cheaper, I was just shocked at their price. But, I also remember some of our holster making members, who have done this type work, saying that it was a PITA to do!

The reason is probably because they use machines to do their stitching. It's a lot quicker than hand stitching and more product can be produced.
Double loop lacing's all done by hand and takes a while. You need to lay out the lace holes, punch 'em, then sit there and go "thru the hole, thru the x, thru the hole, thru the x" for a while.
Looking closer at the holster, it looks like there was no edge work done.
That's groovy, that's partly why the lacing's there. It makes a nice decorative edge.
Me personally, I prefer to do the hand stitching and edge burnishing.
Hmm, $1,425? I may just have to start double loop lacing more holsters. Maybe with a laced belt to match.
