Default Maker Specific - George Lawrence Co.

I know our esteemed member lawandorder has done one of these for the other 2 members (Heiser and Myres) of the big 3, but I could not find one for Lawrence. I know we all love pictures, so give us something to drool over.

The George Lawrence Co. was a Smith & Wesson distributor in the mid 1900's. Smith & Wesson used Lawrence holsters in advertisements during that time.

This is a Lawrence holster with Abercrombie & Fitch's stamp, made for a 3 1/2" .357 Magnum.

A left hand Kit Gun holster.

A model 120 holster designed by Elmer Keith, for a 6 1/2" N frame revolver.

A Lawrence model 18 pocket holster for a 5" .357 Magnum revolver with an A. F. Stoeger stamp.

Lawrence is the best. When it comes time to show off a gun I always wind up digging out a Lawrence and passing on all my Heisers and Myres and Eubanks. They all look good, but Lawrence has the edge.

This is a Lawrence Model 130 holster made to fit a Ruger Blackhawk .357 with 4 5/8 barrel. The letters following the model number specifies the many options this holster has. The “F” is for floral carving, the “C” is for chamois lining, the “L” is for black Latigo lacing, the “S” is for a sight protector, the “H” is for a safety strap, and the “D” is for the color “black” dyed.

I've got a picture of one of my Lawrence holsters I posted on another thread here somewhere. Here it is. It's a fairly early one in the 1946-1954 era that will fit any K frame up to a 6 inch barrel. Many collectors don't realize that they made them with a chamois lining. That's the only thing that this holster is missing. I have not seen a chamois lined one for sale ever; but, I know they exist. When I was a kid I would order directly from Lawrence and always ordered holsters with that special lining.

Nice holster DocB! My holster in post #6 above has the chamois lining. I have seen a few with it, but have never seen one with the wool lining that I remember. I hope Alex will post a picture showing the wool lining of his holster!

Default Thanks, turnerriver......

most of what I've learned about them, I learned thanks to your informative posts.

What is your take on that X22 holster. Is it cross draw? IWB? Both?

The model 22 holster is an inside the waist band holster and X indicates left hand so you have a left hand IWB holster made for a .357 Magnum with a 3 1/2" barrel- an unusual combination to say the least.
Like I said, fine looking holsters.

turnerriver

turnerriver's Lawrence Special Agent is beautiful. Cowhide lining and imported pigskin exterior. I looked for one for years. I even called Bill Lawrence, George's grandson, who ran the business until sold to Bangor Punta. He told me: " they didn't make very many, probably due to a poor marketing effort". Well I perservered and finally found a nice one on the auction site, for a snub nosed Python. (Seek and you shall find)

Default 3 OF MY LAWRENCES

Sam Sherlock started a leather business in Portland, Oregon in
1857, but 2 years later he passed away. His son in law George
Lawrence took over. The business was operated by several
generations of Lawrences until sold in 1989 to Gould & Goodrich.

One of their best sellers was the Model 120 Keith, which is
basically a Threepersons style made for single action revolvers.
Mine is show here on the left. I put the silver arrowhead on it
to cover a small blem. Shown with a Peacemaker replica.

The model 34 also known as the FBI holster is virtually the same
as the 120 except the model is made for double action revolvers.
Shown with a model 10 with 2" barrel.
2nd from left is my 34V. The V means pigskin exterior. It is
lined with smooth cowhide. It has the hammer guard to
protect the jacket lining of the carrier.

3rd from left is a floral carved model 2C made for a 4" M&P,
with retention snap on strap. The C in the model number
designates it as being from Lawrences Challenger Line, which
was a less expensive line. (lighter weight leather)
It is shown with a 4" Model 10.
A later Lawrence fit chart says "Custom options not available
on the Challenger line" so I was lucky to get this flower
carving before that option was not available.

This is one of my favorite Geo. Lawrence holsters. I bought it damaged many years ago, cut it apart, added a silver Bison to the strap around the front of it, used part of the heavy leather that it was constructed from, for a belt loop, and thus shamefully rescued it from a scrap bin, to build a holster for my S&W mod. 19-3. This holster started out as a G. Lawrence #561. My George Lawrence catalog does not mention a #561, so I don't know what kind of holster it was to start with, but would really like to know, can you experts help me with that?

Default #120B 658

http://smith-wessonforum.com/attachm...1&d=1475615758
This is a G. Lawrence #120B 658 holster. I modified it's retaining strap to be able to use it with my S&W Mod. 27 6", by adding silver snap covers. I am ashamed that I modified it way back then, but only had a few holsters, and wanted to be able to use them all.

Default #211BLC 623

http://smith-wessonforum.com/attachm...1&d=1475616840
Still confession time, this one a #211BLC 623, I modified by replacing the initials display strip, with a Spare cartridge holder, thereby making it usable for my S&W Mod. 15 Combat masterpiece. Sorry about showing these holsters one at a time, but, my picture posting ability, and my old computer limit me.

Nice-looking holsters. Those modifications aren't bad at all.

Every time I have modified one of my holsters, and there have been more
than a few times, I have regretted it at some later time. Then I either
have to un-modify them or get rid of them in some way.
Usually it is trying to get a holster to fit a gun that it wasn't made for.
I have finally learned to not acquire a holster unless it fits a gun that
I have. If a holster is so good I just have to have it, I must also go
shopping for a gun to fit it. Yep, I've done that too.

Here is an example of a "modified" Lawrence, but I plead not guilty.
I bought it like this. It is a model 34V which is the FBI quick draw
model. The V means the outer leather is pigskin. Lined with cowhide.
Size code is 432 which is for a 4" N Frame. The seller advertised it as
being cut down to fit a 3.5" barrel. Actually the barrel of my 4" Model
27 shown below comes right flush even with the cut off. This is a
modification that I kinda like.

Default G. Lawrence 120 series holsters

http://attachment.php?attachmentid=2...1&d=1475695955
These are all of the very versatile C. Lawrence 120 series holsters, the 120BS RBH, holding the Colt 1911 Delta Elite, using an adapter, and the 4" Colt flat side Woodsman, the 120B R44M 61/2, holding the Colt Woodsman 6", and the S&W 27 6" using an adapter. The one shown holding the S&W Mod. 27 83/8" is a 120 535. These all will fit the handguns shown, some by using the removable adapters used on the retaining straps. These holsters will possibly fit other handguns , that i'v not tried.

Here's a couple G/Lawrence holsters I have.

First is one for a S&W 357 Combat Magnum 4" according to the # on the back.
Chamois lined,looks like it's had a gun in it for maybe a day or so. Bought this one at a show for $5 last year,,couldn't believe it.
The plastic holster right next to it for some tacticool type was $60.

These next two I picked up at a show a couple weeks ago. I had no idea what they fit but just liked the holsters so I bought them.

This first one is for a 1911A1 'National Match' so the list I have says. It has the sight protector sewn in. But it takes my plain jane 1911A1 just fine. In fact it fits my short bbld Lugers and the P38 also,,no slack on the safety strap either.
Nice carved floral pattern and simple safety strap.
The bottom has the sewn in plug and the inside in wool skin lined. I guess that's not too common. I never had a holster with that feature. Lots of feature code markings on this one on the back side.

The last one is a flap holster,,a favorite type of mine.
Another wool skin lined holster. It shows little use. Another with the sewn in end plug & sight protector. I pondered all the way home what It might fit, Too short for the 1911,,maybe a Commander I thought ,
Turns out it was made for the S&W M39. Nothing wrong with that except I sold mine. Guess I'll maybe have to get another.

Those are some really good picks. I like your gun show.
615 is code for Colt's National Match.
24 is modified Mexican style.
F = flower design
N = woolskin lining
S = sight protector
H = safety strap
Y = end plug sewn in

607 S&W 9MM Auto
14 = flap
V = pigskin cover
N = woolskin lined
S = sight protector

Both excellent collector items.

This was a late night auction site impulse buy. It is so darn pretty I couldn't help myself. I don't have it in hand yet (coming from Canada) does anyone have any idea what it might fit ?

Those numbers are not in my fit chart. But my chart is from
1970, so it is probably newer than 1970. I think the letters
L is for laced, C for chamois lining, and B for Basket weave.

I was cruising around in the bay and came across a Lawrence gunbelt
that I thought I couldn't live without, so I threw in a bid. Nobody bid
more so it's on the way to me.

If anyone is interested, Lawrences belt sizes go like this:
Small 28" - 32"
Medium 33" - 37"
Large 38" - 42"
X-Large 43" - 47"
Oh Oh, I better go on a diet.

Fits a 4" Colt LW Commander, like it was made for it.

I have a Gold Cup Commander That's looking for a nice Lawrence holster, of the type you have acquired, and I have some nice holsters in my swapping stock, so if you ever need something special, and want to do some swapping, let me know.

Thanks, Chubbo. It really is a beauty, and would look good wrapped around a Gold Cup. I am fond of Heiser, Myres & Eubanks.

Maybe you have already done it (I didn't look yet), but if you haven't, please add your Heiser and Myres holsters to the Heiser and Myres-specific thread like this one. We always like to see new entries!
