Default Studded western holsters

Here's some studded holsters I own or that passed through my hands. Do you have any flamboyant southwest or B-western flavored studded holsters? If so, let's see 'em.

This is a 3 1/2" Model 27-2 here...

Copy of Hopalong Cassidy's rig...

My only one is by EPS,fairly new compared to my main interest in older, iconic makers, but attractive (imo) nonetheless. The 32-20 Bisley don't know it's age inappropriate.

I've always liked this particular holster and belt of yours. In the picture it doesn't appear new and has a nice lived in look to it. And the brass dome studs give the outfit a more patina look than bright shiny ones. That's why I use antique finish studs. I tried my 5 1/2" Bisley .32-20 in that one "Johnny Ringo" holster and it looks really good, as does your Bisley in that classic EPS outfit.

Great holsters ALL!! I thought the spotted holsters were kinda "blingy", but lawandorder's spots are even blingy!! My only spotted holster is this Heiser Model 2710. It has the HHH rivets and is made for a Colt SAA with 4 3/4 inch barrel. If I am not mistaken, the HHH rivets were used in the 1920's and before. My only SAA has a 5 1/2 inch barrel.

Being that I shoot SASS, I can appreciate that cool gear. All my own rigs are fully tooled- no studs, but the ones show look awesome .

Thank you

My daddy bought me a Roy Rogers two-gun rig as a get well present when I had my tonsils removed at the age of five. I've been hooked on guns ever since. And that's the truth!

When I was in the CAS/SASS game, I used (and still own) a double Rig for my two Colt SAA 45's made by Rick Bachman - Bose MT but does NOT have any studs. I'm more of a conservative Cowboy

Cool

Copy of Hopalong Cassidy's rig...

I watched Hopalong Cassidy as a kid, and have been watching it again since they brought it back. I also would like a copy of his holsters and revolvers!

A belt & holster I made when I was into SASS 20+ years ago.

The one and only holster I have ever made.

Thanks Art66. It took me so long to make that @ $5/hr I would have had to charge $8K!! lol

Similar to fat tom I too started the "gun thing" at a very early age.

You will note that when I ran out of caps with the pistol (dropped on the floor in the background) I transitioned to the ping-pong ball bazooka...

DRYHEAT, that's a fantastic photo. If you still have those great Hopalong Cassidy chaps they must be worth a lot! That bazooka is very cool also.

Art66, unfortunately my mother was very "efficient" at getting rid of childhood items as I grew older.

I would be driving a Ferrari today if she hadn't done such a good job of it.

The movie "Tombstone" had so many great gun rigs and outfits that a cottage industry in reproductions have sprung up from it. Especially the black studded "Johnny Ringo" rig. The design lends itself to reinterpretations limited only by one's own imagination and particular taste. Search it online and their are endless variations and dead on copies of it out there. In my opinion it was one of the coolest authentic style rigs in a western.

I like carved and /or tooled leather as well as nice plain leather for my stuff.
Sorry, studded is a little to "South of the Border" for my taste.

Not to hijack a cooool thread.... but any practical value to the studs.??

That said; I read in IIRC several of the "Sharps Rifles Novels" (a series about the Napoleonic wars)........uniform buttons (on Jackets and down pants legs) were silver and a source of barter...... seem to recall something similar in a Louis L'Amour novel ..... being silver ..... a way to store/carry wealth.

There also must be an age thing...... I missed a lot of the 40s/50s Westerns.... so my taste in holsters/belts is more Eastwood and "Man with no name"... fancy stitching on the belt.

Sorry ....back to your regular programming...................

I had one of those ping-pong ball guns, too. I'm guessing around 1949 or 1950.

In the real Old West most rigs were pretty plain. A General Store would order a barrel full of belts and a barrel full of holsters. They were mass produced in the East. A work man, Cowboy, would try to pick out a holster and belt he liked and that might even match in color. He paid about a dollar and off he went. If that Cowboy had a bit of extra change he bought studs or conchos to go on his rig, they were normally German Silver. However, a man with some money could go to a Saddle Shop and have pretty much what ever he wanted made, some were really nice looking.

Studded holster rigs? Here's one I put together when I was still a kid (early 20s). The centrefold of a 1974 Guns & Ammo:

1974 G&A (3)a.jpg 1974 G&A (4)a.jpg

Not good enough? I have nicer ones that were featured in Gun World issues in '75 and in '76.

You know I still have that G&A issue with your Bianchi rig in it, showing it in progress if I recall. In the late 1980s I think I saw this rig and the Alvin White engraved Colts it was made for at the Autry Museum. But I really remember it from the close ups in the magazine.

I recently obtained a Mexican-made belt (from the 1960's I think) that belonged to a friend of mine who died last October. The belt was for a really small person, and the buckle and end of the belt were missing. The cartridge loops were rotted, as was all the thread. I removed all of the stitching. The only part I could save was the main part of the belt, and the billet (the part that goes into the buckle). All other pieces were made from new leather, including the left end of the belt, the holster, and the new cartridge loops. I added all the metal studs and other ornamentation, including the buckle, and made the holster for my Cimarron Model P 4-3/4" barrel, in 44-40.

(Edited to add: I like the south-of-the border look!)

That was a very good job making that rig serviceable again, and doing it with a lot of innovation and imagination.

Thanks, Wyatt Burp.

After my friend died, I was helping his sister clean out his house. This neglected belt was just lying on the basement floor, buried under a bunch of other stuff. I picked it up and looked it over. His sister said to take it if I wanted it. His kids have no interest in his stuff, other than what they can quickly sell. Too bad.

The article I read said Bianchi set his number-one designer,
Richard Nichols, to the task. Nice job for a kid.

Heiser offered several models with nickel spots. The first one is for a 7 1/2” Colt Officers Model.

This one fit a New Service, not one of Heiser’s offered patterns but the spots appear to be original, with an Abercrombie & Fitch stamp.

Ed Bohlin's shop (he himself was a silversmith and gunsmith, and not a leather worker; one well-known leather worker who was at Bohlin's was Andy Anderson) turned out sets for the Rose Parade crowd:

That was 1966. Exactly 10 years later we countered with:
