Not an Old LEO, but will an old U-D holster designer do for you?
Although this method is one that Boothroyd touted to Fleming in his famous letter - and who knew Martin of Berns-Martin personally - nevertheless the revolver pops out with the muzzle pointed squarely at your (my?) chest using this method. It's quite a contortion, too.
In contrast, the conventional method (crossdraw) can be done, with awareness, without the muzzle ever pointing at one's self.
The historical reference suggests the reverse draw was intended as a backup method in the event the dominant arm is disabled in a fight; in which case muzzling oneself would definitely be worth the risk. But not otherwise.
