Default Range Bag

Hello all, a newbie to S&W. But, just ordered a model 60 Ladysmith today for the wife. I'm trying to get her all set to start shooting with her girlfriends. I searched and didn't see any threads on range bags, but anyhow, can you recommend a durable, affordable (best bang for the buck) bag that carries multiple handguns, ammo and shooting gear that won't fall apart for years to come? Doesn't have to be S&W product. Thanks so much.

I just use a backpack or gym bag to carry all my range supplies.

I bought my range bag at Academy Sports. I've had it a little over a year now and it is holding up good so far. Seems very well made for $50. It is large which is good but because of that it can get heavy really fast. I can easily get 3 to 4 guns along with 509 to 600 rounds in there and still have room for ear muffs, glasses, spare mags, tools and other stuff you need at the range. Here's a link to it:
Academy Sports + Outdoors™ Competition Range Bag | Academy

The one I bought for my wife was ordered online at Gungodess. It's smaller than mine but will still hold 3 guns and several hundred rounds of ammo with room for muffs and glasses. She had hers for almost a year now and it's held up good too. Seems well made also. Price tag was a little higher than mine but guess you have to pay extra for purty. Here's a link to it:

This one is great: Death Dealer Tactical "Ranger" Soft Padded Range Bag @ Amazon

Tough, thick nylon construction. Comes in different colors. Mine is OD green.

Holds its shape empty, stiff fold-down floor. Dual zippers on the upper opening main compartment for complete top opening. Both sides unzip and lay down in case you don't want to set anything nice on bare dirty tables. Not too big, not too small. Loops, inside/outside pockets, velcro, shoulder strap, oh my!

+1

I've been using one of their Compact Competition Range bags almost exclusively for about 5 years and no signs of wear, tear or failure. Currently on sale for $50.

I've got the Maxpedition range bag and it's great. A little pricey but I'd buy another in a heartbeat. It's going to outlast me.

A backpack is it for me, typically up to three pistols, ammo of various calibers, eyes and ears, targets. Cheap and easy to carry.

Found one at a good price by" Magnum" at a gun show for around $20. Heavy nylon with extra pockets. Stores enough and a lot cheaper than many offered by the big companies

I have gone thru many a range bag. I like the Midway USA Competition Bag. Holds all my stuff, including first aid, tourniquet, blood clot, two pistols, and ammo. Sometimes I travel with 4 or six pistols and the ammo goes separate.
I have had it a few years and find it worth the money.

Another vote for the Midway competition range bag. I have been using mine for at least 5 years now, at least twice a week, every week, and it's still going.

As noted in the link, these can be had in warehouse for $15-$20 depending on the sale. Nice bag IMO.

I was just about to look for this link also. My husband got this bag for me at Costco, and it's been perfect for me. Used it for about a year, and it's still like new.

Main compartment holds two or three hard handgun cases, ear muffs and targets. Side pockets hold six to eight boxes of ammo. Front pockets for accessories.

I'm a disabled female senior citizen, and the combined weight of all this gear would be tough for me to move without wheels.

I bought a range bag from Dillon Reloading years ago and still use it. Bought a second one when I was shooting some rifle stuff and still have both.

Not a single problem with either and talking between the two probably 20 years of use.

I was gifted this bag a few years ago and it has held up quite well and gets used quite a bit. Downside: it is large enough that one can pack enough stuff in it to make it quite heavy. I like the bag though and find it very handy.

Go to Home Depot or any such store and look at tool bags. Mine cost me only $ 4.97 and is just the right size for me. There are larger ones, and all are less money than "range bags".

imakmst, that there is a standard military issue holster. I have one that I "acquired" when I left active duty. That's the basic holster you get issued when your rated to carry a pistol. Nowadays, their only worn for dog and pony stuff like change of command ceremonies or standing garrison duty. For pistol range qualification and deployment, everyone would buy their own high speed holster but I think that now they may be issuing serpa holsters.

Over the last 10 years or so I have been using a Codura Gym type bag. It has lots of room, plenty of pockets, a strong handle and will carry much more than any "official Range bag" I know of. I purchased it at Sports Authority for around $23 buck. Still looks as good as new.

Circa early 90's, that's a Bianchi UM84 "short" (named so at the time) sized to exactly fit a Beretta 92FS Compact w/ 4.3" bbl. I also have a 90's UM84 "regular" for my 92FS which was sized to fit the military M9. Both have the removable flap and removable strap w/ thumb snap. Military quicklock belt fastener on the other side. They're kinda cool for range and woods use.

Go to your local sporting goods store and look at fishing tackle bags. They are eerily similar to range bags but have several added features that are quite nice. I have been using one for years now.

This is the off-season, so many are on sale at great prices.

My handgun bag came from ebay and is smaller cordura version of some seen above. I got it looking under "military bags" there and they sell around $10. Padded, durable, compartments,handles,etc.. Not surplus, newly made and commonly seen.

It's this one here:

Works perfectly for the wife and I when we go together.

My old Air Force tool bag works just fine.

Just checked it to make sure; two boxes of 30-40, 12 M1 clips, three mags of M1 Carbine and room for two S&W revolvers. Yep, works just fine.
