Flea Market Find
Found old duty holster and belt at the local swap meet. I found in in a basket with a rubber revolver grip. I got it, does not fit my 586 or my relatives 66. Before you all do the double face palm! I only pay just one step over pocket change for it. Its no lose. I will use it for a wall decoration. The story is the old woman I got it from bought it from a old Sheriff deputy. Only the belt and holster was left. My guess is thats its for a revolver. Mine just barely don't fit. Just the hammer cant fit. The back says 10-5". It makes since its for a M10. 10s are smaller then 586. There is model 10 that have 5 inch barrels. I am new to collecting holsters, so please correct me if I am wrong. I found the company is still in business.

You are exactly correct. It was made by Don Hume, who is still in business, for a S&W Model 10 with a 5" barrel. K Frames with adjustable
sights will not fit in holsters made for guns with fixed sights such as the
Model 10.

How old you say its is?
If I had to guess. I would say some where around 15 years old.
He must had to be old school to use a M10. Hell, I would be proud to carry on by the way!

I don't feel under-gunned with my Model 10s even today.

Yeah, every one says its a good gun. I bet if the 10 never was made the 19, 66, and L frames would not be here.
Well I will try nit cause drift. I found other older and new hand made holsters. One was for a python. I seen swivel holster before but not yesterday.

Ghost Magnum: You asked the age of your Hume thumb break holster.
Only a WAG on my part, but I would say mid 1970s.

I found that sometimes, target hammers will not fit standard thumb-breaks on some holsters. I've got one somewhere I bought new in the 80s for. K- frame four inch that wouldn't fit a K- frame with TH.

Yeah, a 586 and a 66 wont fit. But a 38 smith with fix sites I found at the same market (I did not buy that gun) fits this holster.

That is the same model of holster that the Colorado State Patrol was issuing in the early '80's when we went to the 686 4". When the Heiser company went under around 1972, our agency started buying leather exclusively from Don Hume until around '96 or so when they switched to Safariland and a retention holster system. We used that holster with a variation for weapon type from the early 80's through to the switch. Prior to that holster we had used a Heiser cross draw model almost since the CSP got armed back in 1936. Some where in a box I have all my old issue leather that got superseded.

So this holster could be any where before the 1990s.
