Can I Dye Holster?
I have a Bianchi shoulder holster that's a light brown in color. It's starting to show a little wear and a little dirt.
I'd like to dye it a darker brown or mahogany, but it appears to have a glossy coating on it.
Is there any way to re-dye it?
Will it take a solvent based leather dye evenly?
Thanks

Sometimes if you put on an oil (like Neatsfoot) it will darken the leather.

If you have a Tandy Leathercraft store nearby, take the holster in. They can give you a better opinion on what will work and they will have the stuff you need to dye it. I would not use Neatsfoot or other oil because the material will soften the leather and compromise the holster's ability to fit your gun. Shoe polish is likely to come off on your clothes.

Try some deglazer on a small spot in an inconspicuous spot. If it removes the finish, chances are you can redye and refinish it.

Re dye holsters
As was suggested take it into a shop like Tandy and get what you need. Basically, it will come down to using a specific leather finish remover to take the sheen off the holster. Then when dry you can dye it with a leather dye in whatever shade you prefer. After that dries well over a day or so, rub it well with a sheepskin remnant using the soft side which will get any residue off and also will polish the dyed surface. Then use a finish or leather sheen to seal the dye in. Especially on a shoulder holster if you leave out the finish, it will bleed onto your clothing and leather dye can ruin clothes. I would recommend that you wear plastic gloves while you are doing the work to keep it off your hands.
If you want the edges to seal well, smooth them off with fine sandpaper or wet/dry paper before dying the leather. You can also seal edges with a black edge sealer which is more of an enamel prior to the sealing coat.

You could also consider contacting one of the Holster Makers on this forum and see if they are willing to do the work for you. I doubt if the cost will be crazy high and it will be done right.
BTW, Snbbyfan is one and he is a true artist.
