No Holsters for Model 66-8
I originally posted this on a Model 66-8 site, but it properly belongs here. I have been unable to find a quality, leather holster for my Model 68-2. Most companies make a holster for a 4" K-frame or even a Model 66 4", but not the newer Model 66-8. Even Galco which I believe makes S&W holsters does not make a holster for the newer Model 66 (66-8). The problem apparently is that the barrel is 4.25" in length. There may be other dimensional problems, such as barrel lug size, etc. but I do not know. It seems that a mold for this gun has not yet been made. There are some companies that I have not yet tried, e.g. Milt Sparks. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Check with Simply Rugged. I got a 4" N frame holster from them, you just need to specify frame size and barrel length. I'll bet they could make one for a 4.25" barrel easily.

Since the problem seems to be that 1/4" of barrel why not contact the manufacturers and see if they have plans to add the length to their holsters for the 66? If the manufacturers get enough requests for the change they will make it. If they don't then it's not profitable for them to change their pattern.

FWIW I've found that most open bottom holsters have 1/4 to 3/8 inch extra length.

You can also consider contacting one, of the several, custom Holster Makers on this forum. They all have good reputations. I had to do exactly that, because there are no/none holsters made for the Charter Arms Pitbull Handguns, which have a slightly larger frame, than all other Charter Handguns, which have the very same size frames.
Personally, I can highly recommend Snubbyfan.

R. Grizzle Leather has an excellent reputation and specifically lists the 66-8's 4.25" barrel as accommodated for: R Grizzle Leather - Home.

My 66-8 fits in my El Paso Saddlery Stong side select. I had it for my 4" 617. Hope this helps.

I appreciate the info, guys. Yes, R. Grizzle Leather does list the 66-8; only company to do so that I've seen. Of course, it is pretty obvious that 0.25" should not make a difference in an open end holster, but I was not sure of other dimensions. Eric Larsen of HBE LeatherWorks made me a really nice IWB holster and belt for my CZ 75D Compact, but he could not find a mold for the Model 66-8, and I did not pursue the issue.
