First Heiser
Going around the AGCA show this past weekend I stopped by to see a fellow that only comes to these AGCA shows. He always has a bunch of beautiful grips, a few old S&Ws and Colts, a big assortment of magazines and usually a few old holsters.
This time he had a beautiful full flap Heiser with no price on it. When I asked how much he walked over to his wife and asked her. He came back with her answer and I grabbed it.
I was wondering if someone can tell me about how old it is?
It has a brown snap with Heiser and Denver on it. On the back it has their makers stamp along with some numbers. The name CF Alex is wrote under the belt loop. Then S&W 38/44 and Outdoorsman 6 1/2".
My pre M25 seems right at home in it.
One of the lace loops is broke at the bottom and it appears someone glued it to the holster so it's not loose.

Yes Mike, is his name Hugh? His wife was not at the 2 shows before this one but she was there this time. Every time I went by she was sitting in a chair and he had another man helping him sell.

Well, the oval makers mark was used by Heiser from 1919 until 1955,but the brown enameled snap button was used from the 30's-50's. My best guess would be mid 40's or later simply due to the very fine condition of your holster. If I'm too far off,John will set us straight before too long.

First Heiser is as good or as bad as the first Smith & Wesson- chances are it won't be the last. You started off with a bang- that's one of Heiser's top of the line models. Is it lined with smooth leather or chamois leather ? I know the dealer you bought it from, his wife buys and sells the holsters. F.T. is right on the money, the brown enamel Heiser snap is post-war or mid 1940's and later. That's a very fine holster you picked up and a slippery slope too.
Regards,
turnerriver

Greg now that was meant to be in your hands. I ran on to him at a show up in Mo. and studied on that beauty but hesitated because I did not have an Outdoorsman for it. We tried to work a trade on one of my holsters but could not reach an agreement.
Figure it saved me the price of an Outdoorsman and went to one of the true good guys on the Forum.
Enjoy that beauty.

Did they also have the beautiful Colorado Saddlery(spelling?)? I was looking at both but they had the CS marked $160 and he came back with a lower price for the Heiser so I bought it. Would have bought both but had spent money on some other things.
I don't have an Outdoorsman either but maybe one day.
Turnerriver, now that you asked I'm thinking it is chamois. To tell the truth I've been so smitten with the floral work I did not pay a lot of attention to the inside. I'll take another look tonight.
Thanks guys.
