Default Diamond D Guide Choice chest holster

I'm thinking of getting a Diamond D chest holster for my large framed 7 1/2" barrel revolver. Does anybody have any real experience with these holsters? They seem to be highly regarded on the web, I just want to check in with you guys!

Thanks!

Default Diamond D Guide Choice chest holster

I have one. It's not a chest holster, but 3 o'clock owb and the quality is superb. I don't think there is a finer holster on the market. I bought it for my S&W 460.

I might mention at the time I bought my holster there was a substantial backlog and delivery delay, but it was worth the wait.

Do a search, there was a thread on this forum several months ago. As I recall, good reports from the few owners that posted.

Default Galco Kodiak Hunter

I bought a Diamond D and a short time later a friend bought a Galco Kodiak Hunter. I like the Galco better and it was a bit cheaper online and available without the looong wait time.

I've got a Diamond D chest holster for a 4'' 629.

Well made, easy to adjust and very comfortable. I'd buy again.

I've got three and am planning on a fourth. My first was one Dave made for my .460PC, where I can carry it with or without the scope. Used it on many occasions while bear hunting. Next was for my NG revolvers. This one used to see fishing duty - small and light. Last year I picked up one for my Sig P220 10mm. That one has only seen a few outings so far, but it was along for the finishing shot on the latest moose. I recently picked up a Glock 40 in 10mm and am currently getting it all "fixed up". After it's done, I'm getting one to tote it around the woods.
They are superb holsters, very comfortable and Dave stands behind his product. Yes they are pricey and if not it stock, can be a bit of a wait. Well worth it compared to most of what's out on the market.

Being worn on the last moose trip...

Diamond D is at, or near the top of the holster heap, but there are several good makers out there, check out Simply Rugged, Galco and Clark Fork Leather. "Google" holster makers, there's lots of them out there.

I do not own this particular brand but my experience with Chest Holsters is that they are more comfortable for long term wear if you make and fit a Pig skin piece of wide leather glued and stitched to a piece of enclosed foam to spread the weight out. If you are wearing a thick coat or layers it may not be as important, but if wearing one in the warmer months I find it essential for long term comfort. The heavier the gun the more I would recommend it. If you don't feel like fiddle futzing and making one, you can use a shoulder pad set up from a leather attache case or piece of luggage in a pinch. This really helps

Have one for my 2.5 inch Alaskan in 44Mag. Great set up, I actually ordered mine online through Amazon and got it with the extra bullet holder that fits into the strap. Rec'd it in 1 week. I don't think they have a lot of models on Amazon though... also, I just ordered a Diamond D hip holster for my 5 inch SRH Toklat. For that I had to go directly through Diamond D and its a 12 week wait. If I hang on to the Toklat I will probably outfit with a scope and then custom order a chest holster for it with a scope cutout.

Pricey, but you get what you pay for. I have a beautiful Galco hip holster for the Alaskan but need to use a very heavy duty belt to keep the grip from sagging away from my body. This is due to the fact that the center of gravity with the gun in place is handle heavy due to belt attachments being placed a-ways from the top of the holster. I am expecting different results with the Diamond D version as its belt attachments are at the very top of the holster and I think the C/G will allow the gun to hang straight down without the handle moving away from my body.
