Some old time leather.
Okay so these are really not either duty or other carry holsters but......... they are my favourite competition rigs.
Both rigs were made here in New Zealand by a gentleman named John Leth. In the last few years I have come to rely on him for my holsters, belts and mag/ammo carriers.
The top rig in the first pic is his "Wild Bunch" rig modified for IPSC Classic division simply by adding two additional double mag carriers. Actually with three of the mag carriers removed it is very similar to the belt and holster combo carried by Robert Taylor in the Longmire TV series, as shown in the last two pics..
I prefer this for Classic division over the usual plastic or metal 'cut away' competition holsters you see on the line. After all, what could be more classic than an open top leather holster?
The other rig is John's double Outlaw CAS outfit with the addition of one of John's Bowie sheaths. He custom makes these for each knife.
Both rigs are very comfortable to wear for multi day competitions.
Guns are stainless Springfield 1911 A1 in .45 and Uberti Cattleman revolvers in 44/40.

I particularly like the bottom rig in the first photo. Its a way to extend the length of the gunbelt when its just a bit too short. The first and easiest way is to fit a buckle that adds length as opposed to the more normal square type where the thing is maybe 13/4" and the thing goes in at half that. The old S&W sterling buckle adds maybe 3+" from the center.
In situations where more length is needed, as in the case of those of us with the spare tire disease (aka Dunlops disease where our belly has done lopped over our belt) adding on with a piece of leather looks good and works.
Regardless, the maker does good work.
