Preservation of Japanese rubberized canvas
I just acquired my first Japanese rubberized canvas holster and although it is in very good condition, I have no idea how to preserve it other than storage in a mild, dry climate controlled area (which is my gun room with dehumidifier)
I have heard pure silicone but never heard anyone give results of same.
Would like to hear from someone who has actually stored them.

I leave mine alone. If you need to reform it you can heat it with a hair drier same thing with a rubberized canvas sling. But it will reharden as soon as it cools. I definatly would not put on silicon or any type of leather conditioner.

It's managed to hang around for over 70 years. . .probably good for another 70. I don't really don't do much of anything with mine except store it in a 70 F and 60% Humidity environment.

That's what's so interesting about this forum. Everyone is always learning something.
I just got into the Japanese guns and find them very interesting. Fortunately I live very close to one of the top Japanese collectors in the country and he is educating me. Also costing me some cash.

If it is in fact a WWll era holster I would NOT use any modern chemicals on it! If it has survived this long (as Sip said above) I would not want to take a chance ruining it. Sometimes it's better to leave well enough alone - although I know some of us "collectors" find that all but impossible to do sometimes.
