Default New Lobo Gun Leather

I never had the chance to get an original Lobo holster. But I did order one for my new 640. I had heard good things. But the experience was great. Good communication from the company, quick too. Made sure I got exactly what it was I wanted. The fit and finish is fantastic. I really like the coloring (the wife did too!) No need for break in. Fit my 640 perfectly. This is one of the first times I have ordered a holster that's not my normal brand that I actually liked. Good, simple holster for AIWB for my new j frame. I am very, very pleased.

Very nice. About 3 years ago I had a Lobo made for my Bodyguard 38. It turned out really nice!

Had Mark, the new Lobo guy, make his Enhanced Pancake for my M&P 340 this spring. It's since taken on the extra half pound of my 640 Pro, at which it also excels. Mark increased his standard loop size to 1¾" to accommodate my lined Milt Sparks belt: a perfect fit. The whole rig is even better since I've dropped 15 lbs and snugged up the belt by one hole.

Mark did a Threeperson, heavily floral carved for a Colt SAA with a 3 1/2 inch brl. I specified a straight drop no cant . I have one in that configuration from the OLD Lobo for a 4 inch K Frame. Workmanship for both is excellent. I will not shop elsewhere for holsters in this price range. Cost is way less than I have paid for much less in product quality.

Received my Enhanced Pancake from Mark at the new Lobo on Monday. Cordovan dyed for a CZ 2075 RAMI 9mm.

I'm very pleased with it.

I might be a little behind the times - is Ray no longer involved with Lobo Gun Leather?

He retired and sold it to another group. Seems to be nothing but good reports of the new outfit.

I'm actually glad to hear that. While I thought that Ray's work was very good, I found him to not be receptive to client feedback. I bought a 1911 shoulder holster from him and wanted tie-downs; he refused to supply them but I couldn't imagine the gun and extra magazines flopping around while I was walking, bending over or worse yet, running (not that running is something I anticipate doing much of at my age). Because of my satisfaction with my other Lobo holsters, I bought the shoulder holster anyway with the intention of having tie-downs made locally.

But the magazine pouches wouldn't hang right - they wanted to hang horizontally instead of vertically and as such, stuck straight out from my body. I realized that the rear "hanger" on the pouches was sewn on in the wrong place and brought this to his attention. He insisted that was impossible and maintained I was not adjusting the harness correctly so I sent him a photo of the pouches with the holster hung on my safe door.

I think it is apparent that if the rear hanger were moved to the same edge of the pouches that the other one is on (to the left in that photo), the pouches would have hung properly.

He replied that since I was apparently unable to adjust the harness correctly, I could sent it back for a refund. I just never warmed up to his attitude but I have two other holsters he made and they are top-shelf.

I wound up buying a Miami Classic II shoulder holster from LA Police Gear and like it a lot but I will be ordering another belt holster from Lobo now that ownership has changed and is receiving high marks from you guys.

Thanks for the info!

Ed

Yes, Bronco45 and Protected One... they are Karl Nill stocks from Germany -- specifically for Centennial models.

Nice holster! I've been thinking about getting one with a hammer shield for my Chiefs Special. My hesitancy comes from that I am not a big fan of IWB. Although I have been giving AIWB a try using an Uncle Mikes. And it's not too bad.

I'm using this holster for AIWB with the 640 and I enjoy it. I stopped carrying IWB with my larger guns but use this set up with my 640. Very comfortable and easy to access

Cool/Cold weather carry is now good to go! Received my Lobo enhanced pancake for my M60-9, and it looks and fits great. My special request was that the leather cover the entire trigger guard and cylinder. And as you can see they nailed it!! Communication was great and it delivered in 4 weeks as promised. Now I just need to decide which Lobo Gun Leather holster I want for my M66-1 2-1/2". Excuse the Pic quality - all I had handy was my cell phone. PEN

Uncle Mikes made similar grips and might still be found in LGS.

My favorite CCW holster is the Lobo Pancake Dual Carry.
I never had a problem with Ray and when he decided to retire I wanted Him "Cloned" I have ordered three holsters from "Mark" the new owner of Lobo Gun Leathers and am still a "Happy Camper"

How low does that holster sit? I like low rides and this looks like the perfect holster.

Thanks!

Agreed, I would love to see a pic AIWB, I'm looking for something very similar to this but with J-clip instead of the over the belt clip for my 637.

When I asked Ray about it, he wouldn't make something like that.

I do absolutely love my enhanced pancake that Ray made me for the 637!

i'm trying a new photo sharing site, so bear with me.

Here's a photo of how it sits. The top of the leather sits just under the belt.

Thanks, that' just a tad bit too high riding for me.

No matter, I am turned off by Lobo now. Bought a few holsters over the years from Ray.

I inquired with the new owners about getting that holster but a little more low riding to my tastes. Instead of a yes or no I got a diatribe on why they wouldn't and why I shouldn't have a holster that low riding..... then no more response.

Unlike a real custom maker who does things like this when a customer wants something different:

Nelson Holsters Stealth IWB For J-Frame (Low Ride Modification) Review

I guess if they don't need the money, I don't need the holster. I will continue looking. It's a shame too because it looks like they do good work.

Enjoy your holster!

Hello, I have thought that I could use this thread to comment about my recent (and positive) experience with Lobo.

I had ordered in the past some holsters from Ray and I was very happy with the quality, so I decided last summer to order some more. In order to avoid expensive international shipping (I live in Belgium) I asked them to deliver the holsters to my in-laws in Arizona. I retrieved them while I was there during the Christmas holiday with my wife and kids. The quality of the holsters is very good and in fact I think their finish is a bit better than the finish of Ray's holsters. However, when I came back to Belgium I realized that one of the holsters, an enhanced avenger for a Beretta 92, had a standard cant instead of the neutral cant I had ordered (I really like the neutral cant for fast drawing in IPSC). I then contacted Lobo, explained everything and sent a couple of pictures. They replied immediately with an apology and an offer to send me a new holster. I know some people will say this type of reply was to be expected but I have learnt to take nothing for granted when it comes to customer service. I will keep buying from them.

Thanks, Red. This design was a real "head scratcher" for a couple of years, trying to figure out how to accomplish the offset belt clip and still complete a fitted holster. Sometimes a concept works out, sometimes all we can do is scratch our heads. Fortunately, this one worked out for me, and continues to do well for the nice family who purchased my company when I retired.

I am sorry you're experience was not what you expected. Mine and many others have had excellent experiences with the folks Ray thought long and hard about selling his life's work to.

I just ordered a second holster last night from them.

And if folks wish to do there own research about the new Lobo folks and their customers' experiences, just search the forum. Here is my addition: Just ordered from new LOBO in Iowa (UPDATE post 7 and 9)

Received my SL Pancake snap loop for my 649/640. Straight drop as requested. Retention is perfect, rides at belt level, not too high, not too low. Awesome!

I have one too (not 0 cant), my favorite OWB holster. Rides comfortably, easy on easy off.

I'm just finding out that Ray retired and while I'm happy for Ray, I'm sad for me. I loved Ray's holsters and own quite a number of them. I wear one daily.

I'm not sure if I'll give the new owner a chance. A look around shows you anyone can stitch leather together, but very few can design and create a good holster. Ray owned a niche in quality inexpensive holsters.

Good luck in your retirement Ray!

Well, perhaps this photo will inspire some confidence in the new ownership. Here is my 2-1/2" Model 66-4 in a Lobo Model 1 Dual Carry made by the "new" Lobo Gun Leather along with a matching six-cartridge belt pouch.

I see no difference in the workmanship in it or my older Lobo holsters. Yes, Ray may have been creative but who's to say the new folks won't have new ideas?
