Berns-Martin Rig - Floral Carved
Picked this up at OGCA today. I always wanted a Berns-Martin holster and this one demanded to go home with me. I had never seen one floral carved until the SWCA Annual Meeting in Baton Rouge this year. I have never seen one with a matching belt.
This holds a 4" K-frame with or without target sights.
It didn't hurt that the rig actually fits me...

Now THAT is what I like to see - a BBQ retention rig. A little added safety factor when mixing OC with alcohol.

Dave: That one would almost (actually, very likely) cause me to start collecting K frame. Absolutely stunning.

Awesome Rig !
In the late 1960s I had a Berns-Martin complete duty rig in black basket weave. (holster, belt, handcuff pouch, and ammo carrier). Dumb me I loaned it to a new hire, he went to another agency shortly afterwards, and I never saw my Berns-Martin again.

Good for you!
Great rig.
Berns-Martin was apparently popular with Ohioans.
Here is the rig I told you about when you called me from the show-

The carving is Calhoun City, but the snap fastener is Elberton. And of course not Bremerton either way. Which is it? Gorgeous regardless :-)

Both the holster and belt are stamped "Elberton"
You make it sound like the rare "transition model"

Berns-Martin apparently relocated in the 1960's--I've seen a B-M catalog from 1960 with the Calhoun City, MS location, and a catalog from February 1970 with the Elberton, GA location.

I've been unsuccessful in determining exactly when our 'modern ' snaps were introduced. Its predecessor, which in modern parlance is called a glove fastener, can be dated and is seen on early B-M and Heiser holsters. Both brands switched to the snap seen on the OP's holster and all modern makers use it today. Anecdotally we could, with turnerriver's help, work this out by dating his oldest Heiser model with the modern snap.
The very earliest B-Ms, such as Keith's 1930s model, are from Washington state and have a wreath embossed into the outer button of the snap. The very rough cut of the strap's tip, as on the OP's, is only seen on late BMs. A puzzle because these are die-cut items and so no good reason for anything but symmetry at the tip.
There are big differences in the details about how the various eras built the Speed Holster. Perhaps someday I'll put up a primer on it for the forum. In my view the very newest of them is the least desirable for reasons of styling, workmanship and even materials.
Surprisingly Myres copied the holster model at least once :-) . Also a very late model in this case.
