I know you are not suppose to go undercover at a BBQ, but you never know

Well, if it's OK to be a little undercover, how about this 49 no dash, African Ivory stocks, a genuine old timey Tyler-Tee-Grip, and Sharkskin trimmed Mitch Rosen ARG holster. Semi Bar-BQ?

I just don't seem to have very many fancy shootin irons. Dag-nab-it!!!

Best Regards, Les

Oh heck yeah! and I just finished a brand new fire pit out of a 41" tank end cap.

Last night I stacked the last of a hickory tree that I had cut down and some oak. It will be seasoned just in time for BBQ weather at the end of Oct.

You game?

That is OUTSTANDING!

I thought that I was seeing Dave's work there. I bought my dad a full custom rig, built to his exacting specifications, hand crafted by our very own Kieth44spl.

Dave built a really nice 4" threepersons carved rig for my nickel 4" Triple Lock.....I guess that I need to take some shots of it and post them here was well.

Thanks for sharing Dave.

Who made the cuff links for you?

It is mostly too hot down here for a coat, but on that rare occasion, those cuff links would be a hoot!

Well now, hold on right thar.....

There's a gal in Cheyenne that BBQs some of the best brisket this side of the ol Rio Grande.

I know, cause I've enjoyed it with the rest of the Pasture Poodle Shooters Hole in the Wall Gang.

Scott,

The cuff links are Vogt 'Gold River' to match the buckle sets.

I've posted these pics here before, but I think this rig is worth posting again
It was made by American Classic Gun Leather, our own 05CarbonDRZ or Alex

I wore this to an open carry wedding last year in West Virginia. If it was a competition, this rig would have won hands down!

Well now Les,

I have been known to tote these two to a BBQ er two..........

If'n it look'd like there might be a lit'l shootin match afterwards out behind the corrals,
and a feller might pickup a few extra sawbucks....I drawed out the 5" 44 Special.

Although I have rolled a barley pop can er two way out thar with the short barrel'd one,

back when I could see a little better.

Well if Dave is gonna drag out the his "can" guns, I reckon I'll have to post a picture of the one I got from him earlier this summer.

It will shoot either 45 ACP or 45 Colt with a cylinder change.
It will make the cans jump too.

Dave:

Those two are purdier than a speckled pup in a field full of daisies!!! Are those hex head sideplate screws on the 5" 44? I don't remember ever seeing them used like that before. But then there's a whole lot that I've never seen before. One reason that I love this forum...I learn stuff every day. Ive been fooling with guns ever since I was a little kid, and I'm 70 now, and I learn something new every day. Before the Internet we relied on gun magazines, and gun shows, and the like, and I still enjoy them, but the net has allowed folks like us to come together to share knowledge and cool stuff like never before.

Seriously, those are both beautiful sidearms. I have a 3 1/2" Model 27 with Ivory stocks, but don't have the leather to show it off. It's pinned and recessed, but not real old. It's at home right now, and I'm not at home so I can't even check to see what dash number it might be. I suppose that that would be one that I could tweak up into a proper BBQ gun....hmmmm

Best Regards, Les

That's finer than frog's hair. It sure deserves an appropriate rig I reckon that one would even get you into a Texas BBQ.

Iggy:

Well, I'm still here at the cabin, but I found a couple of photos and some notes on my thumb drive of my Model 27. Turns out it's a Model 27-2, made, according to my notes, and I can't remember where I found the info, about 1979. (Exit, 9/14/2017...Roy says that it shipped August 1979). Came in the presentation case, with all the tools, and all of the papers are under the lining in the lid. If I remember correctly. I currently have elephant ivory magna stocks on it, but don't have a current photo. (This replacement photo shows the Icory stocks...)

This might be the genesis of a BBQ gun when it grows up. With the right accouterments, of course. The last BBQ I was at was down in Texas, though, and has been some time ago. I was armed, but with a little J frame that was concealed, anyway.

Best Regards, Les

That'll work.

Very nice. You'll have to get a picture of it with those ivory grips.. That's got to be classy.

Great gun, but carrying it to a BBQ in that Presentation Case might be a bit difficult and they might not let you near the "spit". The right leather can make or break a BBQ "showing off" event!

I think this would qualify for a BBQ nickel triple lock with Keith Brown Kearsarge grips and El Paso Tom 3 Person holster

I have many firearms but this is the only one that may qualify as a BBQ: Kimber Pro with custom grips made from Holly Tree Wood and a custom Eagle Slide.

Hey, guys:

Here's that Model 27-2 from my post above, dressed up just a little more:

Haven't had this one out for a long time, thought since you fellows got me started thinking about a BBQ gun that maybe with these elephant ivory stocks, it might be getting a little closer.

As far as a working gun goes, I'm still fixing up that old 28-2 that I've posted on another thread:

I think it's starting to shape up, but it'll never be a BBQ gun, I'm afraid.

Best Regards, Les

That's a mighty fine first step. Can't see you gittin' turned away from any BBQ if you're packin' that one.

If you did, I'm thinkin' you wouldn't like the folks there anyway.

Very nice.

Y'all know with all the beautiful revolvers and BBQ leather on here I decided to do something I normally don't do. I found this carved holster on Ebay and paid $12.00 USD for it. I could not tell what color it was... it had brown, grey, white and what might pass for black. I got it home, washed it with dish soap first, saddle soap next and then mink oiled it. What y'all think....

Turns out it was black and the lining was a dark brown...... missing a few stiches ( I will fix that) and a little rough around the edges, but, I like it.

Sometimes a little j-frame is all you need... plus it's more my size!

I just need to decide if I want to go hammerless or not...

I do think everyone should have a BBQ revolver and holster. Here is mine. The Holster is a carved El Paso Saddlery Company Tom Threeperson that I had made last year for my Nickel plated Factory engraved 3 1/2" Model 27-2.

Les,

I for one would be proud to sport around with that ole 28, that old girl has ... character. I would take her to any BBQ, that said that 27 is a beauty. So I guess y'all have all the bases covered....

Exclamation The little gun that started it all....

Ok short backstory here:

My great grandfather (dad's grandpa) was a judge here in Texas. Lots of judicial types carried for their own safety, and this started waaaaaay back well before any of us here were even a glimmer in their ancestor's eyes.

Anycase - My great grandfather carried this nickel plated 25 in a glove. This was back when Texas was becoming somewhat more 'civilized'. Judges wore robes and did not want to strap their sixgun over the robes, as it made city folks feel weird. He carried this one in a leather dress glove to remain as unobtrusive as possible. His glove is no longer around, so here is just the gun.

It is an Armi Galesi in 25 ACP (it is the very one that spawned another thread a few years ago...it lives on today here Can the 25 ACP be taken seriously?
)
This little gun was also the beginning of my father's and my display at the SWCA Baton Rouge symposium. While it was not carried openly, it helped to inspire a display not only to share some really cool old S&W's but also some of our State, and my family's, history.

Without further ado....Here is Judge Young's gun.

The Ultimate BBQ gun & leather thread-dscf0570_zps0gw5tt7e-jpg

There have been a few requests to post the guns and leather that we had on display at Baton Rouge. I have set them all out and photographed them as they were displayed. I am sure that my father will be along to post some of his here as well (some are already in the thread).

Thanks to you all for sharing, and take note that I am humbled by all of the great rigs that you have posted. Your time and effort to share your collections makes our participation here truly cherished time, and I can not say that about any other internet forum where I have been a member.

I will be adding the guns from Baton Rouge in more posts later today.

Default Triple Lock with MOP Stear Head stocks with gold peso

Here is a Triple Lock in 44 Spl, 4" barrel, nickel finish, wearing mother of pearl stocks with a Mexican Gold Peso. The gun lettered with nickel finish and 4" barrel.

The holster is a Red River Custom by our own Keith44spl. It was made just for this gun. The matching belt and cartridge slide will be finished and find their here way shortly.

This gun was part of my father's and my display in Baton Rouge.

Thanks Linda!

I began this thread in the leather section so that everyone could play, yes, even COLTs I posted one earlier....a c1919 model 1911 with Sambar stag stocks. I was planning on posting a 1908 in nickel, but now that I am clearly upstaged, I will wait for a later time

No way, especially with that Triple Lock, complete with Mother of Pearl grips.... with not just ONE ruby eye... but TWO.... along with a GOLD peso ! The tooled holster just adds to it!

Awesome Triple Lock ! Thanks for starting this thread!

Thanks Linda. I am pretty proud to own that Triple Lock, the stocks and holster are just icing on the cake.

Here is my Colt 1908 in 380 ACP, but yours is all gussied up, maybe I am a close second?

My mother's father had a Colt very similar to this one. His had the checkered walnut stocks. He carried it in a suede Bianchi IWB with the nickel plated belt clip. It was used in a murder somewhere in CO when he was in LE up there. On his passing, it was offered to my uncle, but he passed due to the history and the shiny Colt went to an unnamed family member (and sadly not me). This little Colt was as close as I came to re-creating it for my collection.

The holster is a floral carved rig by Blumel, made right here in Texas.

Them Colt rigs are purtier than a speckled pup.

Very very nice.

I've got a blue and an nickel M model but no fancy shucks to carry them in.

That Triple-lock ain't to shabby either. Where the jealous icon?
