Default R.I.A. 1911 US military holster with writings..

Not sure if this is better in the Lounge as general info or here since it's from a holster...I'll let the Mods decide.

This holster isn't anything of much value, especially considering the condition. What is of value, from a history standpoint, are the writings inside. I've see some forum members in the past with an amazing ability to research names, military personnel records, etc.
I'm presenting this information and asking for those that like to, to do some digging and post what you find.

It'd be pretty cool to track down direct family and gift them a holster from their past....

1st up - Sgt 1st Class Leon R. Layton #127203

At some point, it was handed over to-

Hosp. Sgt. John A or H Carrol
E Hosp 21 US Army

I'd love to know if it was a direct "hand me down" or just reissued - I imagine that's one story we'll never know.

We have some very talented members. I had a homemade WW 2 knife that was "IDed" as it is called. After 28 years of searching with no luck, forum member helped me locate the man, and his family. They even gave me his high school records and even his high school senior picture. These are the things I collect. Well used and with a history.

That's what I'm hoping for! These type of items are closer to telling their story, when they are personalized a bit.
Anxiously awaiting any info...

Very cool find! Named items are always a bonus!

The first name is a little unusual and will probably be easier to search, the 2nd one, I think might be a little harder. I'll see what I can find on "Carrol".

I found a Leon R. Layton from West Union, Fayette, Iowa born 22 Oct. 1892, died 2 May 1979 (Iowa). Looks like he lived in same area his whole life which makes a search a bit easier.

Enlisted Army 14 June 1917; released 2 May 1919
