Default Help date holster please

This is a J Marshal and Sons holster from Seattle. Please help with year possibly manufactured. Front is dyed black, rear is original brown. Possibly dyed black on front as what was required for duty carry.

Thanks.
Hank

The stamping font, among other clues, tells us it's a Lawrence made for Warshal's, a popular sporting goods outfit in Seattle back in the old days. It looks like a basic model that Lawrence began calling their Challenger line at some point. As for the year manufactured, that's a bit harder to nail down as we don't see a snap nor a maker's mark, both of which would help date it. Perhaps turnerriver would be able to assist in this area.

Where would I find the makers mark and the snap you are referring to, is it the front snap where the missing strap would snap in or the back side where the missing strap would attach?
Another note.
Thanks
Hank

Hank, a maker's mark would typically be found stamped onto the backside of the holster but with holsters like yours made for retailers who put their own marks on the holsters they're not always present and the snap I referred to would be the front (female) half on the (missing) strap.

Of course, the missing piece....Dang!
What is your best "guestimation"?
Do you feel it is post 1950? Or maybe, say, 1935 or 1939? That would be fantastic, but doubt I can be that lucky.
Your input is all I have to go by right now and I understand this would be a "guestimation". If you prefer, you can PM.

Hank, I'm no expert when to comes to dating holsters but I'm pretty sure yours is post-war, I'd guess between 1950s-1970s. Sorry but that's the best I can ballpark it (and I may be wrong).

Like db's excellent information my input is only a guess. The model 25 was Lawrence's top selling holster, sort of a flagship for the line. The later Challenger holster was a cheaper similar holster that Lawrence stocked, the model 25 remained a made to order holster available with many extras.
My guess is that your holster is pre WW II. Warshal's holsters were made by A.E. Nelson after the war, the description of the revolver the holster was made for is characteristic of earlier holsters. The post-war pre size code Lawrence description would typically be "M 6 1/2" like on this post-war model 25.

Again, just a guess.
Regards,
turnerriver

db and turnerriver,
Thanks to both of you for your info!!!
This holster, I was told, has been with the revolver (a RM) for at least 70 years. I know its just a story, but this is the fun part. Getting the info and piecing it all together. Obviously, Pre WWII dates the holster to the gun, but for know it is just a story.
On another note, the owner I recently acquired the gun from sent a pic of his great grandfather, Chief Of Police in Orting, WA, but he is wearing a jacket and the holster and gun is covered by it.
Thanks again,
Hank
