Default Just ordered from new LOBO in Iowa (UPDATE post 7 and 9)

Just placed my order for an enhanced pancake and belt for a soon-to-be-mine PC627 sku# 170133...2.6" barrel. They said about 4-5 week turnaround.

I will be picking them up at their shop when complete. They are only about 1 hour from me. Will be interesting to see the shop. Will take pics if possible.

Ahhh, the wait begins. Gun should be in within the next 2 weeks. Might neeed to find a cheap/generic N frame holster locally so I can start carrying my new friend!

If it's as nice as the one I ordered for my son you will be both impressed and happy.

Excellent news! So far I commend them on communication and how patient they were with me on the phone when I ordered. I will do a full review once I am back from the shop with everything in my grubby little paws!

I agree. They make an excellent holster at a very reasonable price and turnaround. Here are two for my FNS 9. I have another pancake in the mail for my CZ PCR.

Matt, the son, is great to work with and very helpful.

Have several from the old Lobo and just ordered my first from the new company.
Customer service and response so far has been simply outstanding.

Well, where to start? Yes, I paid full price for everything and no, I am not being compensated for this review. Also, if I mess up any of my recollections of our visit, I hope I will be corrected if the folks at Lobo are lurking.

Monday past, my Father-In-Law, daughter (7) and I made the hour drive to see the folks at Lobo Gun Leather in Iowa. Lobo gun leather | Facebook
lobo gun leather - Home
I was picking up the new belt and holster I ordered.

Via email they knew we were coming that day. When we arrived, we no sooner parked the jeep at their homestead than the door of the shop opened and we were welcomed by the (one of the?) owner(s). We went in to a recently remodeled shop which had been at one point part of a large chicken farm. You can do your own research to see how they morphed from chickens to leather goods.

I suspect we spent about 30-60 minutes:
-Being shown around the shop
-Seeing how leather was cut and shaped by hand - and with what tool(s)
-Viewing the large sewing machines (run by a real person) stitching a piece of leather for a holster
-Getting a lesson on stitches/per/inch and the importance of a better quality thread
-Getting love from the family dog
-Being shown some of the cool one-of-a-kind pieces (you can see at least one on their FB page)
-Getting answers to my many questions - one being, "How can you make holsters for so many different types of guns"? {hint, The cool Wall-Of-Guns}
-My F-I-L getting answers to some of his possible future holster needs
-Getting a mini lesson on what parts of the hide are used for what parts of a holster
-Getting a mini lesson on some things which are and are not advisable with certain types of custom holsters in relation to certain styles of carry, body size, body shape, etc.
-Hearing about how time consuming a custom engraving job really is on a holster
-Being shown some beautiful custom engraving (not sure if correct word in reference to leather)
AND the list could go on BUT I think I made my point.

If not, my point is that these folks not only produce a quality, beautiful holster (as well as other leather goods. I saw at least one saddle and many non-holster items) but they are also real, down to earth, great folks. I would say great "country folks" because that term means a lot to me but I am not sure that would get the point across to everyone.

Customer service was extraordinary. Even though they were obviously very busy (sorry if you are waiting for your order) they took the time out to welcome us in to see how they do what they do. They allowed us to see, ask, BS and pet the dog. They acted like we were the most important part of their day. And it was not an act. I truly believe they value you, me and every single one of their clients.

I have been in the customer service business all my life and will always continue to frequent a business that offers me:
-a quality product
-at a fair price
-AND has exceptional customer service.
If all 3 components do not come together, I can just as easily shop online for something cheaper.

BUT WAIT, that is how most of you (and me originally) ordered from Lobo. Until my visit they were just another online vendor I did business with. Now, after meeting them, I can say that they are the local guys and gals who happen to have an online presence. I will do business with them again.

Oh, by the way, my new belt does an amazing job of holding up (and in-tight to my body) my new holster with a very heavy gun in it. Do yourself a favor, if you do not have a quality gun belt for what ever holster you use - get one!

Here is the short version if you skipped to the end: YEP I will do business with my local holster company again. I trust them to advise me:
-On what to order
-What not to order
-How each of their products will work for me and my body type
-What product will be best suited for my STATED needs for a specific type of carry

Thanks for the great report.
One of the holsters you saw in process is mine.

And a hint on what holster to order: I knew what I wanted my holster to do for me and I communicated that to them when I first called.

My 1st "must have" was a very tight hold against the body because this holster (yep, for my other guns I have holsters for different needs and types of carry) will be for CC when the concealed part is the paramount issue.

My 2nd "must have" in my mind was a high ride because I "figured" a higher ride would be concealed better.

If I remember correctly - during our phone conversation (when I placed my order) I made these 2 wishes known and was told the following: There was a style I could have ordered which would be higher riding above my belt/on my body/ but would probably flop a bit more as compared to the one I actually ordered. This is my description not theirs.

I took their advice and am 100% satisfied with how well it sucks my heavy/bulky gun into my body.

So just a piece of advice - Know ahead of time what you want from this particular holster. When I OC I actually am not so worried about "tight" to the body fit. That is usually a close secondary requirement. Also I did not have this holster adorned with any leather carving because I know most of the time It will never be seen by anyone else but me. However, if I do order a 2nd holster for this same gun I suspect it will be a different style and would see the light of day much more often.

My holster for a different gun - which often is OC - is carved because I do like a beautiful piece of leather (art) to help show off a great firearm at times. Definitely consider this option if like me, you enjoy a custom piece of art showcasing your fine looking firearm.

I really wanted to but I figured I had better respect their trade secrets I do know that they have some great pics on their FB page. Some of the more intricately detailed carved pieces.

My bad

I've bought several holsters from both Ray and the Fedders (new owners of Lobo). While I find their holsters to be a bit stiffer when new compared to Ray's, I will not hesitate to continue buying from them.

Well, maybe that's what held up my order! Just kidding, but I did order a non cataloged item in late Nov. A cell phone case. I'm tired of the cheap fall apart cases you can buy and wanted something that would last. I emailed them and got a call from one of them and we discussed what I wanted. I gave exact measurements of the cell and they told me how much. I sent my check and got an email back it was in line to be produced. Heard on Monday it just came up for production and in a few days I should have it. I have 3 belts, and 4 holsters from Lobo, but this will be my first with the new owners. So far so good.

I have nothing but praise for Lobo. My two most recent holsters from them have been awesome. One is an IWB for my 686 that gets daily wear and is comfortable as an old pair of jeans. The other is a Threepersons/Sloan for my 27 and is as good a classic belt holster as my El Paso holsters, with phenomenal basket stamping.
They always respond quickly to the initial order request, their turnaround (especially considering quality) is phenomenal, and they are always helpful with any questions after the sale. Oh yeah, and their pricing can't be beat.
