I want to get input from forum members on what you consider a safe mounting solution for securing a holster inside your vehicle. The mounting options I have seen are Screws, Velcro, and Straps.
Have any of you have used Velcro or Straps to mount to the console or under the steering column? I**™m in Texas where it gets very hot in my truck so I**™m afraid the Velcro will not work, and I have only seen the Strap solution for under the steering column, buy I**™m not sure how secure that would be.
Personally I prefer the Screw option for safety, but I would like to hear back about what you think and have used.

I will just mention something I saw YEARS ago in a pickup. The person had pulled the rubber pad off of the (foot operated) parking brake...then slid a holster up onto the metal piece - the portion that would normally go through your belt. He somehow permanently affixed it to that metal pedal lever...and replaced the rubber pad. He could lean forward and grab the gun out of the holster without issue.

Just a thought.

Many eons ago I took a hunter belt holster and secured it to the steering column of my 1950 Mercury by a pipe clamp though the holster belt loop.
The weapon was a Webley Mk IV .455 revolver converted to .45acp.
P.S. The revolver, holster, 50 rounds of GI ammo and a bottle of 44/40 cold blue for $9.95 including Railway Express shipping from Gold State Arms of California.

I gather from the price you bought it to ride with Pershing on the Mexican Punitive Expedition. Me too. Sure was hot and dusty.

Alien Gear has a dock for their OWB holster. If you buy both, it's about $60.
They have a large assortment of gun shells and will swap them for free.

Just be mindful of any airbags underneath the steering column. Don't mount anything to the panel near where they deploy if your vehicle has them. The holster / gun / mount / screws or whatnot could cut you up pretty bad if the bag deploys and makes them projectiles.

Just my opinion of course but mounting a gun in a car is not a real good idea! Who is going to secure it and be responsible for it if your car is stolen, broken into, or if it's forgotten when being worked on in a service facility? People DO get into accidents, become incapacitated, unconscious, have heart attacks etc. when in the car. A BIG MAYBE if you drive for a living and are in there for many hours a day - but again, extreme caution and attention must be payed to that form of carry and for most would not be the best method, IMO.

IMHO a CCW should be carried on one's person. For what it's worth, I do not care for Brief Case or Bag carry either - too easily lost, forgotten or stolen.

chief 38 MHO ^^^^^, sums it up. the thread is mounting a weapon, your choice. went to pick up the wife the other night, person came out of nowhere, even checked the area before I shut the suv down, he thought I was an uber driver. butt of weapon against seat, but at hand. made a shoulder holster the other night for the EDC, maybe a cross draw for when in the vehicle, when I lock the suv, the weapon is w/ my person. the thieves/ breakin pros in the burgh, can clean out a vehicle in less than a minute. a seen holster, mounted, my 2 cts., makes the vehicle a target, or yourself when you come back to leave. for some reason vehicles from out of state are a target for breakins. the local tv reports weapons were taken from out of state vehicles during the veh. breakins, thus more vehicle breakins. when the steelmills shut down 30+ years ago, just met my wife, moved to a small town like Mayberry RFD. every one had rifle racks, most of the time w/ weapons in the racks, no one ever locked their vehicles, never heard of anyone takeing a weapon, but that was 30+ years ago.

Great point, automakers are putting airbags all over. Make sure you know what is behind when you start drilling.

This is the best option I have ever found. Nothing permenant to drill or alter in my vehicles. All my cars are lease vehicles so drilling is not an option. This is a all nylon system that mounts to the fron bottom of a vehicle front seat. So you transfer your pistol into this while in your vehicle then back into your carry holster when you get out.

I am going to make a wager that the purpose for a holster mounted in a vehicle is for quicker/easier access and possibly comfort when driving - on the part of the OP.

I would agree to previous statements that one should never leave a gun visible in a vehicle anymore these days but not the op's intention IMHO.

My pickup truck has one of those two piece bench seats so the driver and passenger(s) can adjust independently. This allows me to place a sticky style holster (remora) between the cushions if you will. It works perfectly as intended, but I rarely do this. For most road trips I carry crossdraw instead.

I built a magnetic holder that mounts under the steering wheel on the knee panel of my truck. Twin 75lb pull magnets, coated with a rubberized coating, hold my 1911 nicely, and never shifts. My truck suspension is very stiff, and the truck rides with all the grace of a dining room table. I've even taken it trail riding, and the gun never shifts. Just an idea...

My past few vehicles have all had center consoles where I've kept my pistol in. No holster needed in most.
