Phil,
thanks for your kindly comment...and you are 100% right:

"...the one on the left" (my post #18 above) is the
Lucky Find....early Andy Arratoonian (Horseshoe Leather) IPSC HOLSTER
and was my 1.thread ever (and you "helped me out" with a bit more information
about Horseshoe Leather, thanks again !)

We discussed the Harry Maacken Holster (2.pic) here
Cross Draw Holster for 4" N-Frame (M 29-2)

and the Shoulder Holster (3.pic) was in your great PWL-thread
PRICE-WESTERN HOLSTERS

Phil, wish you a good 2017 from Germany
(hope, you have had a "Guten Rutsch"), especially good health...and
Keep on posting (then I know, all is well) !

P.44

Reading this forum, as I frequently do, it seems that the big 3 in
collectability (is that a word?) would be Heiser, Myres, and Lawrence.
What if expanded to 5 instead of 3? Maybe add Brill and Berns-Martin?
What if 10 instead of 5? What's on your MOST WANTED list?

It would be interesting (to me) to know some of your criteria for
collecting. Fewer with higher quality? More with less emphasis on
condition?

When I get a holster in mind that is a "must have" I'm really a
diligent searcher. But when it seems I am searching for the proverbial
"needle in a haystack", I have given up and had a replica of what I
wanted made by a quality maker. Is that fair?

Finally, I have always been of the opinion that a good holster is not
much good without a gun, so generally, I only buy holsters if I have
a gun to match with it. As silly as it seems however, I have bought
a holster and then had to go looking for a gun.

Sorry for rambling, but this stuff is so interesting to me I even started
writing a manual about holster collecting. But I decided the market
would be too limited to justify the cost.

Happy New Year to all and happy collecting in 2017!

It's a CPO thang.

Oh, and when they stop making handguns, I'll stop buying/making holsters!

One of my New Years resolutions was to start thinning the herd of
guns and holsters. So far this year I have 3 new holsters, and it's
only January 10th. Is there any hope?

Step back in time to 1913, Rock Island, Cavalry holster for 1911. This one sat in a safe (with a 98% Colt 1911 made in 1916) since 1950 until 2014.

Phil:

I know that you love holsters and guns to put in them, so why deprive yourself? I have had the same thought from time to time. I certainly have many more guns than I "need", but in the past I found that when I would convince myself that I wasn't interested in some particular type of firearm, and would sell or trade a few off, lo and behold, something would set me off again, and I would be buying the same sort of gun and or caliber all over again. So now I just store whatever I'm not interested in at the time, and know that sooner or later I'll probably have them or it back out and playing with it again. And if I pass away, and there is still a bunch of guns stored away,....well, both of my sons love guns, and I have grandkids, and they can always sell whatever they don't want. I have raised them so that they have a pretty good idea of gun values, and what they don't want to keep will be part of their inheritance.

So far this year, I've only bought two guns.

Best Regards, Les

Bamabiker, You're a sick boy. You need to take up drinking and chasing loose women. it'd be cheaper in the long run!

Hope? Hope that you will eventually have enough holsters? Nope, but by golly you're to be commended for trying!!!

Mr. Burg, most of that I made myself. That way I still have money to drink and chase loose women.
Problem is now when I drink I fall a sleep and when I catch a woman I can't do much with her.

Beautiful work, bama!!! You have a really impressive talent! Thanks for sharing with us, for those of us like me, who don't know you personally, my first guess would be that that leather work was done by a high end commercial supplier!! I am continually amazed npby the talent and expertise here on the forum!

Best Regards, Les

That all makes perfectly good sense to me Les. Thank you
for the encouragement. Think I will go scan the holsters on
the auction site. Phil

I was standing outside on my way out of the gun show last weekend,
and was conversing with a gentleman that had bought a nice vintage
Heiser holster. He was showing it to me and we were talking about it.
Over on the street a funeral procession went by. He bowed his head,
and removed his hat and held it over his heart.

I was very impressed with his thoughtfulness and told him so.
He said "Well, we would have been married 35 years next Thursday."
