Default Heiser "Bulls Head" holster

Greetings and a belated Merry Christmas to all our members. I thought I would post a few pictures I took this morning of one of my favorite holsters. It's a Heiser #407 known as the "Bulls Head"holster. I love the fact that It's made for a 6" Smith & Wesson revolver and the gun that I have pictured is a 6" K frame Military & Police .38 that was shipped in 1925. I believe the holster is from approximately the same period.
Bill

That is super nice! I remember years ago thinking that that model was not seen very much (at least by me). If you go on ebay now, they are all over the place! I guess times change.

Why do they call it a " Bull's Head " holster ? ( Joke ! It's a joke !)
Your assumption is a good one, I find that model in catalog number 19, one of my copies has a hand written receipt in it from the Heiser Co. Representative dated June 1922. Also in catalog number 20, one of my copies has a price list dated February 1, 1928. Catalog number 30 shows the model 407 Round Loop holster but the example has a plain loop with no bull's head. That plain holster is listed through catalog number 40 and is not in what I believe is the first post-war catalog number 50. So 1925 sounds just fine. They seem to have been popular for the Colt SAA, yours is a beauty and matches your revolver perfectly.
Regards,
turnerriver

That's a neat holster, except for the old cow's head on it. LOL. I need to find me one of those. Wow, just looked on EBAY, and you can have your pick; but, I'm not going to pay $300 for one. The sellers say they are rare, but there are plenty to pick from. At least I now know what too look for when I'm rummaging around the cheap places.

As turnerriver said these are most often found for SAA's. I bought one several years ago as Christmas gift for my father-in-law, fits his 4 3/4 Colt SAA. That holster is not as slick as the one Bill has!

A poster above mentioned the word "rare". Can anyone explain to me what that word means? I understand that its often paired with a 2x price increase. I kind of understand that on a steak, it means not cooked enough.

Holster, firearms, or anything that the seller lists as "Rare" or "Collector's Grade" I keep moving along as I know the price is not going to be affordable for me.

I consulted Ambrose Bierce's The Devil's Dictionary but he didn't list it.
I think you defined it-an item that is much more expensive than one that's not rare.
Years ago I bought 200 WW II machete scabbards. I sold the first one for $225, the second for $175, by the time I went through 20 of them they were $50 each. I still have about 20 left somewhere, you can have one for $10 or three for $25. The first two were rare.

turnerriver

I really like that holster, and it's in beautiful condition. The holster and the revolver are a great combination. Wish I had something like that.
