Default Texas Law Enforcement rig

I commissioned Alex at American Classic Gunleather to build a highly traditional old school Texas "Ranger" style rig for my engraved Colt Combat Elite 1911. I made several requests that Alex did an exceptional job of turning into reality in leather art. The holster is unique. Two traditional styles of holsters in the Southwest are favorites of mine and I asked Alex to combine them. The AW Brill style and the Texas Jockstrap. Small requests were a bit more than traditional coverage of the trigger guard and full protection of the rear sights. The holster is about perfect in execution of what I envisioned in blending of these styles into a unique look. I wanted full floral covering. No pictures I could ever take will do the carving Justice on the entire holster and belt rig. I also wanted to incorporate a Texas prison inmate made four piece buckle set. I think it came out great and cannot wait to find occasion to place my Cinco Peso Prison made badge on it and wear it. Overall, the execution, materials, quality and very timely delivery and communication was excellent and I now own an heirloom piece of leather. Next step.....the 1911 will be on its way to Steve Morrison at MARS Armament so it functions as good as it looks.

That is pretty. Gun and leather. I've done just enough leather work to really recognize superior work, and that is.

Mea culpa to the OP, I had my holstorian's hat on during my posts, and thoughtlessly hijacked your thread.

I love great leatherwork. Are there any photographs of the holster/rig? I'd love to see what it looks like. I'm about ready for some new custom leather, myself...just at the stage of looking at different styles/makers now.

Thanks Red. As a fellow holstorian I get that part. It is why I have bought so many of your old holsters as they are part of our history. Alex is doing a great job trying to build rigs to keep holster history alive in an age of kydex and synthetics.

Wow! What a rig! Simply gorgeous. What width is the belt? And of course, now I want to see photos of the pistol, too...it looks beautiful. Are those fire-blued screws? Thanks for the photo!

Thanks so much for getting this wonderful thread back!!!

Really nice work by Alex, and a real treat to see the detail work involved in his carving skills. Nice design of both the holster/ belt, and the floral pattern of the carving. It will only look better with time and wear!!!

Best Regards, Les

The belt is a 1.75" so it can get through loops if I want, but it is set up to go over another belt. Yep, those screws are fire blued. The stocks are likely going in the safe and some faux Ivory or Ebony with some Texas stars in them for working. I love the base gun and engraving.....but, someone put a bunch of unfitted old 1911 parts into the gun. To make the pistol "working" reliable, Steve Morrison will work his magic. Steve has built numerous working 1911's for me that I have trusted my life to, as well as those I have been tasked with protecting (used 1911's extensively for VIP protection work). The goal is for this whole thing to be "functional" to use for working special events and details.

Thanks for all the kind words. Alex really poured himself into this rig and it is far more beautiful in person than photo's could ever do justice.

Here it is with the Cinco Peso badge also made in Huntsville Prison. If someone can blow this picture up it is a bit more detailed.

Nyeti, after seeing the rig Alex made for you I contacted him and had him make me a holster and magazine pouch for my 1911. I hope you don't mind me adding it here. Seems you are a becoming a bad influence, I had him make me a Brill style holster and cartridge slide awhile back as well! I'll try to get a pic up of it as well, Alex does work and is a true gentleman to deal with.

The Fort Worth Stock Show just kicked off.

That'd be perfect for the parade.

Actual public BBQs won't start for another couple of months.

When I was a kid they called it the "Fat Stock Show." Nobody body-shaming those pigs & cattle!

The pistol is at MARS Armament right now getting to the point of being truely capable as a hard use service pistol......all while looking good. As much as I love good looking stuff, I absolutely demand that it is reliable and functional as a tool before I will carry it as a defensive pistol. I can't wait for it to get home and will post new pictures.
