Default Pachmayr grips question

I'm hoping someone can give me some help with a question I have about some Pachmayr grips I bought for my new (to me) model 63.
I purchased a used set of grips that came in a Pachmayr box. I think, but I'm not positive, that it is the original box for the grips.

What I would like to know is: Approximately how old are these grips? Is the box the correct one for these grips?

Please excuse me for having the pics upside down. I'm still pretty new here.

Thanks for any help!
Allen

Your Model 63 is likely a round butt J-frame. The grips are for a square butt J-frame. The box is for round butt K-frame grips.

Having said that, the grips should fit your gun but there may be a soft spot at bottom rear where a void exists due to your round butt frame in a square butt grip. If your 63 is a square butt, you're all set.

The model 63 came in both round and square butt configurations. If yours is a square but the grips will fit. But no the box is not correct. Occasionally one will find grips that are marked incorrectly from Pachmayr. I have a pair that are marked SKC grips and came in an SKC box. But they fit an N frame only. I don't know how that could happen but it did.

I recently bought some like that, same box art, supposedly from the 1990s.

I would date those Presentation-style grips as approx. the late 70s. They are well-shaped as is customary of earlier Pachs. Later generations of Pach Presentation grips are more blocky in shape and do not fit the revolver frames as closely. Also, these grips are two-piece; many later Pach grips are connected at the rear.

These square-butt grips will fit on a round-butt grip frame: the pin at the base of the frame will fit into a corresponding recess in the grip. As the previous poster said, there may be a slight bit of looseness. On a .22RF, it should matter very little.

Default Thanks!

Thanks guys for all the help. My 63 does have a square butt grip frame, so the grips fit perfectly. No looseness at all, and they fit my hands really well too. And the best part is I got them for $10 including shipping!
I wasn't sure at all about the box. I thought the letters SK might mean K-frame, but I wasn't sure.
The serial number on the gun dates it to the late 70's, so if the grips are about the same age that is really cool.
Thanks again for the info. I really like how much knowledge this group has and shares!

NOTE:

In my personal experience Pachmeyer Grips will cause the gun to rust! They have metal inserts in the rubber and eventually pop out and rust the gun. I have had bad experiences with them twice and never used Pachy's again. Uncle Mikes made far superior grips without the metal but don't know if they are still currently made - although you could probably find some on the used market.

If you do use the Pachmeyers, take them off often and check for rust - and yes, Stainless Steel does rust!.
