Default Left side carry & calvary man twist

I was practicing with my 586 useing my laser to practicing my draw. I'm using an old strong side duty holster and belt I got from the flee market. It works just good enough to practice with. But I decided to move the holster to my left side of my body to see how I do with cross draw. It felt really good. I liked it. Then I tried to do the old "Cavalry man twist" draw with my left hand. I did it perfectly. I didn't tag myself or anything. I can draw and fire just fine with my left hand. It was really comfortable. I will practice more with that style later.

I read no second place winner. So I originally scuffed at cross draw holsters after I read that book. But I'm not a police officer transporting prisoners. I did notice a small difference in speed. But I have no plans to get into a quick and the dead style shoot out.

What do y'all think?

Just to help keep your terms correct...Calvary is the hill where the Roman's crucified Jesus....Cavalry is a mounted soldier and a type of holster draw.

Do you carry for personal defense? If so, I think you should practice with the gun and holster you use for that purpose. Developing competency with your weak hand is a good idea, but I'm not sure what you are practicing for with a twist draw from a flea market holster.

If it's just for fun, I suppose that's OK and I don't mean to rain on your parade.

Cross draw is better when in a car/truck with a seat belt on.
Kind of hard to draw on the strong side with that seat belt in the way.

I have a normal belt holster. It's very uncomfortable. I been looking at belts and holsters and rigs. I been losing alot of weight. I had to pouch holes in my belt. I ditched the belt and started using a rope. I was going to buy a new set up. But my Dad pointed out that I might not fit it by summer. I don't want to spend the money for something I can fit now and can't later. Or I holster fits perfectly now, and hurts like hell later. I decided to follow my dads advice and wait.

I had an old west style rig that I carried my 586 in. It slid off of me during target practice. Sold it on eBay.

I'm just experimenting.

Now that you've achieved victory, in that you can draw your weapon without "tagging" yourself, the best advice may be this: "Don't take your guns to town, son...."

Seriously, it DOES pay to practice, sounds like you're doing well.
